"I don’t want to leave you alone down here with them."

"They’re drunk and already trailing in this game. I got this."

"You and these baseball analogies." I had to smile and shake my head. "Just don’t let them throw you a fast one, got it?"

He gave me a thumbs up. "Now get out of here. You’ve got a call to make."

I got up and he promptly swatted me on the rear.

"It means good luck in baseball."

"Nice try." I gave him a look. "You do realize my species invented the game, right?" I then took off, retracing my steps.

Chapter Thirteen

KLINN

As Faye left to contactthe Wanderstar Fleet, I got a keen sense of resolve. The Quareks and my former friends outnumbered me, but I couldn't stand by and let them manipulate and betray me without consequences. It was time to take matters into my own hands.

My ears perked when I heard a lid slam on a crate.

"Last one. Let’s get ‘em outside for Riven." I heard Gugerol tell the others.

So Riven was making a late-night run to the opera tonight. Might as well try to end this evening on a high note.

Summoning my power, I focused on the air around me, drawing it inwards. Slowly but steadily, I used my dual set of lungs to draw all the air from the rooms down here.

Within seconds, I heard cursing and coughing. I took my time walking next door. The Quareks clutched at their chests and moved to escape the increasingly airless space. They stumbled past me down the corridor.

I turned to Zorbluk and Gravix who were wheezing and cowering in the corner of the room. "If it isn’t my two trusted friends."

Gravix shook his head.

"What’s that, Gravix? Are you shaking your head no because you’re not my trusted friend or no please don’t take my air away?"

"B-both."
