“Liar,” He challenged, tightening his hand around my throat.

“You’re right,” I gave in, smiling at him as I ran my hands up the front of his chest which was bare through the opening of his linen button-down shirt. “I don’t want anyone to see me but you.”

“Troublemaker.”

“More like a bored housewife that resorted to baiting her husband for his attention.”

“More lies,” He said expertly. “You’re thriving in the peace we’ve been afforded on board. And I’ve only been working for two hours.”

I shrugged, sliding my fingers into the band of his shorts, “Okay fine. Horny housewife that aches to come again. It’s been hours since the last time you made me orgasm.”

“Now that, I actually believe.” He smirked, loosening his hand around my neck and kissing me. “But your hungry cunt will have to wait because we have appointments to keep.”

He grinned, causing my glare as he pulled me off of his desk and from the office with his hand in mine. “Do we have to leave?” I stuck out my lower lip.

I never pouted. But I was feeling particularly moody and not at all interested in mingling with others when for the last forty-eight hours I had been blissfully naked and content to allow the truce between my new husband and me to benefit me.

“Do you want a ring for your finger?” he questioned with a cursory look over his shoulder, “Because if not, then by all means, we can skip the first appointment. But the second and third are nonnegotiable.”

“Ring?” I froze mid-step, causing him to stop and turn back to look at me.

“The wife of the Don can’t walk around without a visible representation of our marriage.”

“Right,” I whispered, mentally kicking myself for thinking anything else of it. I had looked down at my bare left-hand numerous times since saying, ‘I do’ and wondered what my perfect wedding ring would look like in an alternate universe where I married the man I loved. But I never thought about one in this life. “Got it.” I started walking again, until he stopped me with a hand on my hip, making me face him as he tried to read my face.

That was something I had picked up on lately. When Nico was trying to understand me, he studied me intently, like he was trying to solve a puzzle.

“You didn’t like that answer,” He stated.

“It wasn’t what I was expecting is all.” I steeled my spine and tried for indifference. “It makes sense now that I think about it. There are images to protect.”

“Wrong.” He shook his head and crouched slightly until I looked him in the eye. “I could have had any ring delivered to Armarow before or after our wedding, Ari, if it was simply just the physical metal on your finger I was worried about. But that’s not why we’re going to get you one now.”

“Then explain it to me so I understand it.”

“Rasul Diamonds here in Ibiza are some of the best quality jewels in the world. The class of stone is unmatched and I wouldn’t even consider picking out the ring you wear from anyone else. Do you want to know why?”

“Why?” I humored him, giving him what he wanted, simply because I was needy for the answers he was freely offering.

“Because I’ve grown quite fond of you since we decided to get along and enjoy each other’s presence.” He stepped forward and ran the pad of his thumb over my cheek. “Despite what you think of me as a man or a Don, I am trying to figure out how to be a good husband. So I want to give you the very best in this, as a sign of the beginning of something true.”

“Nico,” I whispered, overwhelmed by the sincerity of what he was telling me.

“Let’s go pick out a ring that will mean something to the both of us, together.”

“Okay,” I agreed because never before in my life had someone made me feel like I was the center of their world like Nico did when he gentled himself to me like that. “Okay,” I said again, with more conviction.

“Okay.” He leaned down and kissed me, and I eagerly deepened it, trying to express the depth of what I was feeling with touch.

Words and honesty hadn’t always been our strong suit, but the touch was undeniable between us.

Our bodies said everything we didn’t know how or were unwilling to vocalize. From the first night he touched me, the lies and deceptions of our relationship couldn’t hide the truths of what we felt physically. So, I was going to trust in that part of our relationship and allow his words to feel as honest as his touch did.

“Nicolas, mymostloyalcustomer.” A man in a flashy cream-colored suit walked into the private room with three women in pristine white dresses carrying large cases in their hands that were easily half the size of them.

Didn’t hurt that each of them was the size of twigs with professionally enhanced figures either.

I tried to ignore them altogether in my seat with Nicolas at my side, instead of nitpicking my appearance compared to theirs. He picked out a sage green sundress and a pair of cream-colored wedges for me to wear when we got ready and because he had soothed the fire inside of me with his sweet words right before that, I allowed him to dress me without a complaint.
