Although, I felt rejuvenated now. Eager, even, to get on with our quest.

My stomach loudly rumbled, reminding me that it certainly wasn’t ready yet.

Killian chuckled. “You’re worse than Solstice.”

Our dragons were waiting for us at the cafeteria’s platform. We’d sent them on early so as not to flaunt our wyverns in front of students who might never have any of their own.

Also because they could easily eat their own weight twice over.

“Says you, you endless pit,” I retorted. As a Nephilim, he could eat anything and his metabolism burned it instantly. It was so not fair.

“To lunch, then,” he said, then tugged me toward the Academy’s towers.

“And then we train,” I decided.

Because whatever Vern shared with us was all the preparation we would get for a trip to the Shadow Realm.

A place no living creature had ever gone.

And if we wanted to stay living and return home when our quest was complete, we had better be ready for anything.

CHAPTER 4

The cafeteria was busy and I lost track of Killian when excited students rushed up to meet me.

I was famous, but that hadn’t sunk in yet.

It hadn’t been this bad before, but with the new influx of students, I was definitely somewhat of a legend on campus.

Eliminating the Wild Dragon Queen and putting a stop to the constant invasions of Wild Dragons was a feat that had been felt everywhere. Something I hadn’t realized until the new year of students had come in.

They all knew me by name.

“It’s Vivi the Valkyrie!” one said while waving their orientation book.

She eagerly held it out for me to sign and I used the same pen someone from ten minutes ago had given me.

I was just a regular girl who preferred to hide in the back of the library and read fantasy books.

But to these students, I was an icon.

Someone they wanted to become when they graduated.

Hopefully word doesn’t spread of my poor fencing skills, I lamented when my hand started to cramp from too many signatures.

I longingly looked up, unsure how to make it the relatively short distance to the stairs.

But it was blocked out by students and Killian was in the back waving me on, having been swept back by the crowd.

Some girls fawned over him, but I was definitely the main attraction.

Finally, after an eternity, I broke free of the crowd and found Killian waiting for me at the base of the stairs. He had a smirk on his face, no doubt amused by my newfound celebrity status.

I looked around, finding him alone.

“Where’s your fawning fanship?” I asked him with a raised brow.

He raised a brow right back. “Excuse me?”
