The men in masks ram the car door shut.
They turn to me. "You’d better behave if you don't want to end up like Enzo’s ex."

Adrenaline pounds me as I rush toward Enzo. "Tell me what happened."
"Mattie left to buy you a surprise thank you card. He loves you. He said he’d be back in twenty minutes. It’s been an hour."
"Why the fuck didn’t you tell me?" My voice is low.
"We thought he was dilly-dallying," Ryder sniffles.
"He was also buying chips," Cyan whimpers. "He has analysis paralysis. Sometimes, he can’t decide what snacks to buy. This happened on a playdate at Little Land. We wanted ice cream but he wanted Zebra cakes. He paced between the various snack sections and damn near had a heart attack."
"Eventually, we decided to buy Zebra cake ice cream," Enzo sniffles. "It’s a new flavor."
With a growl, I grab my Glock and car keys and race into the hallway.
"You three stay here." I jab my finger at Mattie’s friends.
Enzo steps forward. "I want to come with."
"No." Deep. Menacing. Packed with deadliness. "I’ll be damned to fucking hell if I let you endangeryourlives—and Mattie’s."
"We didn’t put Mattie in danger," Cyan pleads, tears brimming in his eyes. "We swear—maybe he went to a second store."

Mattie’s friends don't know this, but every Daddy in the universe can sense when something’s wrong.
The sensations building in my gut let me know thatsomeone snatched my boy.
Growling, I race down the hallway to grab my brothers.
"Fire up the chopper," I snarl, throwing the helicopter keys to Lazaro.
He cracks his neck. "Tell me what’s up."
"Mattie’s been missing for an hour and no one told me."
Lazaro’s eyes turn to slits. "Christ."
"I need you, Marcello, and Santino to scope out the island from the chopper," I command. "Use deadly force if you see the Riccardis."
Marcello rushes into the room. "Is everything all right?"
"Mattie’s gone," Lazaro barks out.
Marcello doesn’t move. Doesn’t budge.
His biceps flex. "Let’s take his abductors out."
My brothers pound pavement as they head to the chopper.
