He snickers. "Nope. Try again."

"Luigi?"

"No."

"Petrie," I snarl at last, unable to believe my gut was wrong.

He cackles. "Also no."

"Liar," I roar.

"One of those names was correct. It’s up to you to decide which one."

A thumb brushes across my cheek. "You’re prettier than my ex." This is one of my original two abductors. The American accent is unmistakable.

"Who’s your ex?" I jolt away from him.

He blows me a kiss through the air. "Enzo. He wasn’t good enough for me. Unfortunately, I saw him with Tommaso and realized that I still loved him. Maybe I shouldn’t have. He still isn’t my type. Unfortunately, he’s accustomed to being my slave and I don't want to find a new one.I’m lazy that way."

The sound of a gun being loaded fills the air.

Click.

"Shut your goddamn mouth," an Italian voice says.

"It won’t make a difference," Enzo’s ex spits out. "Mattie's not going to be alive for long—he won’t tell."

The car screeches to a halt.

Someone throws open the side door.

I can’t determine who.

A hand rips my blindfold off and points my eyes toward the vehicle door.

To my horror, we’re parked on top of a cliff overlooking the sea.

Wind and waves crash against the rocky shore.

The car teeters over the edge.

One wrong gust could send us flying.

All at once, Enzo’s ex screams.

Two of the masked men ram his face over the edge. "You disobeyed."

Enzo’s ex shakes. "We’re killing Mattie. I can tell him who my fucking ex-boyfriend was. It doesn’t matter."

The man rams the gun against the back of his head. "Not on my watch."

He pulls the trigger.

Bang.

Enzo’s ex topples out of the vehicle and crashes down the cliff.

I scream as I jolt back, my head snapping against the window. "Let me out of here!"
