A tear rips down her cheek as her voice breaks.

“I didn’t write it,” she chokes. “That fucking article. IswearI didn’t—”

“I know.”

My hand squeezes her hip, making her flush as I pull her closer.

“I know you didn’t.”

“Jackson, please!” She begs, her face ashen. “You have to leave before Judy—”

“Jackson!”

My face darkens as Melody’s pales. Slowly, I drag my eyes from the girl in front of me, to land on the witch that steps up besides us with an evil smile on her face.

“Mymy, isn’t this a surprise!” Judy smiles a lifeless, thin smile as her eyes practically shoot daggers at me.

“Why, Jackson, I forgot you were on the guest list!”

“I wasn’t.”

“No shit.”

She keeps smiling in that plastic, surgical way of hers.

“Jackson, honey, before you do anything stupid?”

Her eyes drop to where my hand is still on Melody’s hip. Her face darkens before she drags her gaze back to me.

“I’m going to give you one minute to leave, Jackson.”

“No thanks. Nice party, by the way.”

“Jackson, so help me God. The stories about you I’m prepared to drop will make youcry—”

“Go ahead and do that, Judy.” I shrug. “Because my lawyer has beensalivatingto fuck you in ways evenyou’venever been fucked.”

Her face goes ashen.

“Howdareyou—”

“This isover, Judy.”

“What’s over,” she snaps.

“Your bullshit. All of this façade. It’s done.”

“Jackson, I advise you to take your fucking hands off my daughter—”

“Your daughter,” I hiss, making her flinch as I suddenly whirl on her, my eyes narrowing. “Yourdaughter.”

She opens her mouth to say something. But before she can, I grab her wrist and yank her close with my mouth by her ear, so that only she can hear.

“I know, Judy,” I raps darkly.

“You knowwhat—”

“About Iggy.”
