Well, hedidwarn me. I let him loose, and there was no putting him back.

The sky had blackened, and darkness bled through the forest long ago. We’d been out here for hours, toying and having our way with each other like there was no tomorrow. Fane and I had done more than a dozen of the things I’d been fantasizing about. But there was most definitely more we had yet to explore.

Neither of us held back, and bruises and scratches covered us both. Fane had never been this unguarded with anyone during sex. He didn’t need to admit that. I could feel it every time he touched me.

I’d never let myself be this free with anyone else, and I certainly had never let anyone do the things he’d done. Heat rushed into my cheeks just thinking about it.

“You’re so cute when you blush.” He ran his finger over my earlobe. “Even your ears are turning red.

Fiery tingles swept up the back of my neck. “I amnotblushing.”

“You are.” His tongue flicked his lip ring. “You’re thinking about that thing we did.”

My brows lifted. “Which thing?”

He chuckled, and I laughed.

For shit’s sake. We were so drunk on each other we’d probably fail a sobriety test.

What would happen when we left these woods? We weren’t together—I wasn’t stupid enough to believe things were so simple—but we disliked being apart.

“What do you keep calling me?” I asked. He’d said that foreign phrase a few times now. “I know you’re speaking a demon language.”

Fane’s lips brushed my neck, making me shiver. “Fiera mika?”

My toes curled at how the words rolled off his tongue. I never thought a demon language could sound so… sensual. “Yeah, that.”

He shrugged. “It doesn’t translate into English.”

I shoved him away. “You’re full of shit, Maverick. What does it mean?”

Something fluttered in the air, and I assumed it was a leaf until Fane’s face hardened. He snatched the small piece of paper as it floated down.

“What is that?” The last time a note magically appeared, it had been Ruin reminding the demon shifter of their deal.

Fane tried to hide the note from me, but I let loose a warning growl. He scowled and flattened it on the ground in front of us. “Fucking Ruin. He really lives up to that name.”

He did seem to have a knack for ruining our moments.

Dearest Tate,

I’m calling on your promise to return to help with my endeavor. It’s safe again, and I would love to continue our work.

Sincerely yours,

Ruin Bacchus.

Fane scoffed. “Pretentious prick.Dearest Tate…”

“You’re jealous.”

“I am not. I have nothing to be jealous of.” Fane leaned over and bit my shoulder, making me yelp. “And you’re not going.”

My head snapped back. “Uh, excuse me? Yes, I am.”

“Uh, no, you’re not.”

I motioned my hand between us. “You don’t think this entitles you to boss me around, do you?”
