When I entered the small but tidy living room, those mismatched blue and gold irises snapped in my direction, and a flood of fire sizzled in my veins.

Logan shot from his seat, spewing the drink he’d just downed in the air like a geyser. “How are you up walking around right now? You should be out for at least twenty-four hours. Or dead.”

I ignored the high demon and glowered at Fane with enough hatred that he could probably taste it. “What did you do to me?”

He slowly climbed to his feet, surveying me from head to toe with a hard, unreadable mask shielding his face. Dark strands fell forward, caressing those sharp cheeks. Stubble coated his jaw, marring a few of the scars digging into his skin.

Why did he have to look so good in a pair of ripped jeans and a t-shirt?

I shook the wayward thought off and pointed to the sun tattoo on my torso. “Is this from the Infernal Sol?”

“That wasn’t there before,” Logan murmured, using his shirt to wipe the liquid he spat off his chin. “But it must be. The Infernal Sol’s magic fused with you somehow.”

The demon shifter still hadn’t spoken as he scrutinized me, bringing a flush to my skin that looked more radiant than before the fucker bit me.

“How about this?” I moved my hair aside to show them the strange swirls inked on my neck.

This finally forced the demon shifter to move, and he stood inches away in seconds. His presence wrapped around me, and it took all my control to keep from leaning forward. His eyes scorched as he ran his finger over the symbol that perfectly matched the ones on his arms and neck, maybe even the rest of his body.

I bit my tongue to keep silent as his sizzling—and addicting—touch burned in the most delicious way. As my breath quickened, Fane’s gaze darted to mine. Did he know how his touch affected me now?

Logan appeared over his friend’s shoulder and cursed when he saw the tattoo on my neck. “That’s one way to mark her, buddy.”

Fane cut him a glare. “I’m glad you find this so amusing.”

He shrugged and didn’t bother hiding his grin. “Your discomfort has always amused me.”

The demon shifter returned his attention to me, moving his hand from my neck to my arm where a faint line was all that remained of the sub-demon’s cut. “It seems your injuries have all healed.”

The wound from the balcony pole had left behind a light pink spot that would whiten over time or even disappear. “Yep.” When I turned back to Fane, he inspected my stomach, but not the tattoo or the pink splotch. Instead, he studied the small, circular scars that riddled my ribs.

I crossed my arms, blocking his view. “Are we still in the Underworld?”

“We’re on the outskirts of Vlehull.” Logan stuck his hand out for me to shake. “Welcome to my home.”

Before I could even refuse his hand, Fane spun toward his friend. “We need to find a way to get the Infernal Sol out of her.”

That would be optimal, but I’d also like to prevent him from getting it. “I need to go home,” I mumbled. “Captain Coltrane will be worried.”

She would be disappointed too when she found out I failed the mission.

OrdidI fail?

Technically, I had the Infernal Sol. Maybe she could find a way to remove it and prevent any irrevocable damage to me.

What exactly was this thing doing to me?

“You can’t go home.” Fane’s gruff voice interrupted my rambling thoughts. “Karn’s guys will be after you.”

I scoffed. “I can handle them. Plus, I’ll be with other ravens. We’ll take them out.”

“Did you forget I bit you?” His deep voice rang with an edge of annoyance bubbling beneath a mountain of rage.

My nostrils flared, and I motioned to the tattoo on my neck. “How could I forget now that I have a permanent mark to remind me?”

“Well, smartass, since you were bitten by a wolf and survived, you’ll change on the first full moon.” He tilted his head toward a cute kitten calendar on the wall. “Which is in two nights. You’re not a raven anymore.”

Shards of ice swept through my veins, painfully dragging along the walls and tearing gaping holes. As Fane’s words sank in, my lungs constricted until breathing became impossible. I shuffled to a leather couch and dug my hands into the back as the room spun.
