I slid my tongue inside her mouth, kissing her with so much intensity her breath caught, and her heart hammered against my chest.

Brie pulled away, peeking at me beneath her long eyelashes, her cheeks still flushed from her orgasm. “Shower with me.”

“How could I refuse that offer?”

ChapterThirty

Brie

Iwas scaring myself. I’d flown off the handle in minutes, then had hate sex with Kane. It had been the best sex I’d had in my entire life. Hell, I wasn’t even sure how it had happened. He’d pissed me off, then I was on him … then he was on me.

I sucked on my lip as the shower water streamed down his chest and abs. My focus took a slow, sensual hike up and down his muscular body. It was the first time I’d seen him fully naked, and he did not disappoint.

His intense gaze swept over me, then paused on my hip and tattoo. “When did you get it?” He pointed to the eye and roses.

“I don’t remember.”

He faced the opposite direction, and my attention traveled across his broad shoulders, down his back, and over the curve of his sculpted ass as I started thinking about the off-the-charts sex we’d had so far. Then I saw it. Confused, I reached out to trace the tattoo on his lower back directly above his right ass cheek.

“Kane?” I asked. “I don’t understand. That’s the same tattoo, except yours doesn’t have roses.”

He turned slowly, sadness etched in his expression. “I noticed yours when I was here one night.”

That information should have pissed me off, but I already knew he’d been in my house. It was old news, and I had no energy left to get mad at him again.

“Why do we both have the eye?”

Kane frowned. “Hand me your shampoo, and I’ll wash your hair while I try to explain.”

Anguish flickered across his features, but I did as he asked.

I needed answers any way I could get them, and I hoped we had come to an understanding after our fight. It seemed as though I was about to find out.

“Brie, it’s an all-seeing eye. They’re not really tattoos.”

“What are they?” I tried to relax as he massaged my scalp, the suds streaming down my shoulders.

“Brands. We’re branded.”

Turning to look at him, I swiped at the soap on my forehead. “What? I don’t understand.”

Kane reached up and pulled the shower nozzle out of the holder. “Let me rinse your hair.”

Irritated that he was stalling, I turned back around.

“They branded us in case we ever escaped. While we were there, a few people got out and changed their looks, but the green and blue colors of the brands are difficult to cover up unless you have surgery.”

I placed my hand on my tattoo. “So, it’s for recognition? Like how they tag wildlife?” Tilting my head back, I let Kane rinse my long strands. When he finished, I picked up the body wash and looked at him. “My turn.” I grabbed the washcloth and loaded it with the watermelon-scented green liquid. I stifled a giggle since nothing about our conversation was funny, but badass Kane was about to smell like fruit.

“I suspect that you added the flowers after you left.” Sadness clung to his words.

“Probably, but I don’t remember. It’s so fucking frustrating.” I ran the washcloth over his pecs and down his abs. I smiled as his dick sprang to life. “As much as I would love to help you with that, I’m hoping we can talk for a while first?”

“I know. What can I say? He likes you.” A lopsided grin eased across his face.

I giggled, then took my time washing his gorgeous body. I tried to ignore the tug in my chest but realized I could no longer deny that I felt something for him other than physical attraction. I could even pinpoint when I started to fall for him. It was the day Marc showed up, threatening me, and Kane stepped in. Kane’s strength and power rolled off him as he protected me, and my feelings toward him changed. It was funny how I considered myself a strong, independent woman, but there was still something about a guy stepping in and defending me that made my insides turn to mush.

“Kane? Who arethey?” I asked.
