My words tumbled out in a rush. “No. I’m trying to protect myself from you. I didn’t betray you. I swear it. I was framed. Set up by someone. Maybe one of yours.”

He scoffed. “Bullshit.” Placing his finger over mine, he threatened to pull the trigger. It would blow his brains out.

I pleaded with him. “You have to believe me. I would never betray you. I didn’t.”

“Says the President of her own goddamn chapter of the Asphalt Gods MC.”

“I can explain that, too.”

“Save your breath,” he said, making me pull the trigger.

Holy fuck.

Squeezing my eyes shut, I waited for the boom and the wet bits to hit my face. I had experienced it before, being close to a gunshot that ended someone’s life. That splattered their guts in my face.

But nothing happened.

Opening my eyes, I ripped my hand from Levi’s grip, easy since he allowed it.

“It’s not loaded?” I realized.

Levi tossed the gun to the side.

“No,” he said.

Blowing hot air out of my nose, I didn’t like his cruel joke.

“I don’t need a bullet to take you back to Tennessee. Besides, I would be tempted to kill you myself,” he said, his voice full of pent-up anger.

Taking a deep breath, I got to my knees and grabbed hold of his shoulders. I practically begged him, “Let me explain what happened.”

He shrugged me off, getting off the bed completely. “You can tell it to my brothers. Get dressed.”

I crossed my arms. “No.” Then I got my wits. I lunged for my loaded gun on my bedside table.

However, Levi anticipated that. He rushed to it before me. Seizing it, he took it far away from me. Walked across the room. I fell back on the bed, defeated. Naked as the day he was born, he searched for somewhere to tuck the pistol away. Like he just noticed he was still stark, Levi bent and grabbed his pants in a hurry.

Tugging them on, he said, “Putting up a fight won’t do you no good.”

Getting out of bed, I bounded to my feet.

Dressed partly, he slipped my gun away.

“Any more guns I need to worry about?” he asked.

“I wouldn’t tell you.” Strolling to the bathroom, I said, “I ain’t going nowhere.”

Fuck. I had a club of my own. If Levi thought he could get their President out of Galveston, he was nuts.

The biker followed me. I tried to shut the door on him, but he was a stubborn door stop. When I failed, I let him in and went about my business. I had to take a morning piss first. As I raised the lid, I felt a bit embarrassed at the pink toilet, sink, and tub. I had not designed the house. Someone who loved the beach did. Seashell wallpaper lined the walls when baby blue tile did not. I would change it, eventually. Seemed the least of my problems at the moment.

The big guy leaned on the pink, long double sink top and crossed his arms like a prison guard. He watched me squat on the pastel commode.

“Afraid I’ll go out the window and you won’t be able to take me to my death?” I asked.

He looked toward the tiny window. My cat Squirrely wouldn’t even be able to fit through it. A stray I had taken in, she was pregnant.

After I wiped his cum that oozed out of me and flushed, he took a leak himself.
