“Oh.”

“What advice you got?”

“Don’t work at the gym. Find somewhere that won’t get on your nerves.”

“I’ve got an issue with Jase, but I can handle the work. It’s fine.”

“I thought you worked at your brother’s garage?” she asked.

He tensed up. “That fucking asshole can do without me.”

“Okay,” she said.

“Sorry. Me and my brother are not a topic of conversation. He’s an asshole and I’m perfect.”

“Ah, the perfect sibling thing.”

“You know about siblings?”

She frowned. “I have a sister.”

“You do?”

“Yeah, Isabella, considered the most beautiful woman in town.”

Grant frowned and then wrinkled his nose. Isabella, right. The one that just got married. “Yeah, okay. Whatever.”

That shouldn’t make her feel happy. She loved Isabella. She just got tired of constantly being compared to her, and all the time coming up lacking. None of this was Isabella’s fault. Their mother always took over with things. Even when they were younger and Isabella just wanted to hang out, their mother was there to put a stop to it.

“Yeah, I don’t believe you.”

Grant sighed. “I don’t care for her. Besides, I’m here with you, and that’s all that counts.”

She smiled. They arrived at his apartment, and he made her walk ahead of him, which caused her to be very aware of her prominent behind. Was there a way to walk that didn’t highlight how big her ass was?

Aria wished she wore a longer jacket, or even a shirt. But instead, she had no choice but to rush upstairs and imagine him grossed out at how big her rump was. At the top of the stairs, she dreaded looking at him, but forced herself to turn toward him and wait for the response.

He pulled out his keys and flicked the lock.

“Wanda’s home, just so you know. Don’t freak out. She won’t … you know, run to the door or anything, but she might growl as you’re the first person I’ve brought home.”

“How is Wanda doing?”

“Better, but I still don’t like how she’s behaving.”

They stepped into his apartment, and as soon as Aria joined Grant’s side, she heard a growl.

He reached out, flicking on the light, and there was Wanda sitting near the door, but the moment the light was on, the growl stopped, and Aria smiled at the large dog.

Wanda was huge, but the kind of dog you just loved. At least, she loved.

Grant petted her head. “It’s nice to know you care, girl.”

Aria touched her head afterward and smiled. “Thank you for not going for me.” She wanted to sink her face into the fur on Wanda’s head, but instead she settled for a stroke.

She loved dogs. Always had. She had to wonder if it was time for her to get a dog since she loved them so much.

Following Grant into his kitchen, she stayed perfectly still as he put the kettle on top of the stove.
