“Mm, hmm. So, what do you have planned for tonight?” Savina asked.
“Nothing as exciting as you,” Wanda said.
Savina cleared her throat. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, you have the look of a woman who’s getting it on the regular. Who’s your new guy?” Wanda said with a grin.
Savina blushed. “Um, he’s not, I mean… we’re not… it’s Hal.”
To her credit, Wanda’s eyebrows only raised a little. “So, your plan worked then?”
“It did,” Savina said. “We’re friends again.”
“But not just friends.”
“Well, we had sex once with the understanding that after, we would only be friends, but….”
“But you kept wanting to see each other naked?” Wanda said.
Savina laughed. “That’s an accurate description.”
“Well, I’m delighted that you and Hal are dating,” Wanda said before taking a delicate bite of her pastry.
“Oh, uh, we’re not dating,” Savina said. “It’s a friends with benefits thing.”
“Why?” Wanda asked bluntly.
“That’s all Hal wants,” Savina said.
“So, you get together once or twice a week?” Wanda asked.
“We haven’t really talked about that,” Savina said. “We decided last weekend to be friends with benefits, and Hal’s come by after work every night this week, and he stays over at my place.”
“Every night?” This time Wanda’s eyebrows nearly disappeared into her hairline. “That doesn’t sound like a friends with benefits to me.”
“I wasn’t expecting him to stay at my house every night,” Savina admitted, “but I like that he is. I like it a lot.”
“You want more, don’t you?” Wanda said.
Savina nodded. “Yes.”
“Have you told Hal that you want more?”
“I haven’t.”
Wanda smiled at her. “From my perspective, it seems like Hal might want more too. Why don’t you talk with him about it?”
“I guess I’m afraid it’ll push him away,” Savina said. “I want more, but I also don’t want to lose what we have. I’ve missed him so much this last year and to be friends again with the bonus of sleeping with him is amazing.”
“I get being afraid of losing him again, but you know better than anyone how short and precious life can be. Going after what you want, being with the person you love, is important, right?” Wanda said.
“I’m not in love with Hal,” Savina said.
“Aren’t you?”
She stared at Wanda before sitting back in her chair. “Shit. I’m in love with Hal.”
Wanda laughed. “Girl, it’s about time you caught up to the rest of the class. You even say that boy’s name, and hearts drip from your eyes.”
