He turned to the others. “I’ll drive Savina home and meet you at the restaurant.”

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll get an Uber,” Savina said.

“I’ll drive her home, Dad,” Harper said, “and then come by the restaurant.”

“I don’t think your car will make it to Savina’s and back,” Nathan said. “Take my truck.”

Savina shook her head. “No, don’t worry about it. I’ll take an Uber home. It’s not that far.”

“Don’t be silly,” Harper said. “You’re not paying for an Uber when one of us can drive you home.”

“It’s not a big deal. I don’t -”

“I’ll drive Savina home.” Hal’s low voice made her stomach do crazy flip flops. “I have plans for tonight, so I can’t make the restaurant. I’ll drop her off at home before I head out.”

Savina stared desperately at Harper, who quickly said, “You don’t want to be late for your plans. I don’t mind driving her home.”

“It won’t make me late.” Hal stared at Savina, his gaze nearly turning her thighs to liquid and making her nipples tighten. “As long as you’re good with riding the bike?”

Happiness lit her up like a rocket. “You brought your bike?”

He nodded, and her traitorous mouth said, “Okay, well, sure, if you’re sure you don’t mind.”

“I’m sure,” Hal said.

“Okay, then it’s settled. Hal, get my baby sister home safe, and I’ll see the rest of you at the restaurant,” Warren said.

Savina couldn’t hide her excitement as she followed Hal to his bike. The others were piling into various vehicles, and she waved to Harper as she and Nathan drove by them. She studied Hal’s bike with genuine affection, reaching out to run her hand along the seat as Hal unstrapped the extra helmet.

“She looks good,” Savina said.

Hal put on the leather jacket draped across the seat before looking her up and down. His gaze didn’t linger on her chest or hips, and she swallowed her disappointment as he turned and rummaged in one of the saddlebags before pulling out a second, worn-looking leather jacket. “You won’t be warm enough in just your t-shirt.”

She took the jacket with a nod of thanks, shrugging into it and zipping it up as Hal put on his helmet and then handed her the second one. It wasn’t the one he’d bought for her. That one was at home, safely tucked away in her closet in a box where she didn’t have to look at it every day and feel that ache of loss.

She slipped the helmet on and buckled it before turning on the intercom.

“Ready?” Hal had already climbed onto the bike, and she swung her leg over, sitting on the seat behind him. It’d been over a year since she’d been in this exact spot, and it felt a little like coming home. She put her feet on the pegs and slid her arms around Hal’s waist, clasping her hands across his flat stomach and sliding close until her knees squeezed his narrow hips, and she was flat against his back.

God, she’d missed this.

The bike started with a smooth rumble, and she excitedly squeezed Hal’s waist.

“You okay?” His voice came through the intercom.

“Yes,” she said. “I’m good to go.”

She could hear the impatience in her voice, and Hal obviously could as well because he made a low chuckle and said, “Hang on tight, sweet Savina.”

CHAPTER11

Savina slid off the back of Hal’s bike, pulling off her helmet and setting it on the seat as Hal shut off the bike and removed his helmet.

“Thank you so much,” she said. Her cheeks hurt from how wide her smile was. “That was amazing.”

He grinned at her. “Glad you enjoyed it.”

“I really did.”
