“It is,” Savina insisted. “I’m positive that if Hal and I have sex, we could return to being friends and how things used to be between us.”

Wanda grinned. “Has that plan worked out for anyone in the history of ever?”

“So, you don’t think I should sleep with Hal?” Savina asked.

“Oh, I think you should bang him like a screen door. That boy is fine as hell,” Wanda said. “But I’m not certain it’ll fix your friendship how you want it fixed.”

“It doesn’t matter, anyway,” Savina said. “Hal’s made it clear that the kiss was a mistake, and he wants to continue avoiding me. I need to move on.”

“Okay,” Wanda said. “So, are you going to try the app again?”

“Yes,” Savina said. “In fact, I have a date on Friday with a very nice man named Scott. He’s my age and manages the garden center at Home Depot. He loves animals, gardening, and spending time with family.”

“Sounds like he has potential,” Wanda said.

“I hope so,” Savina said.

“Text me and let me know how the first date goes,” Wanda said.

“I will.”

“Perfect. Now,” Wanda took out her phone and scrolled through it, “take a look at this picture and be an excellent friend who tells me these are the perfect pair of shoes, and I’d be a fool not to buy them.”

Savina laughed and took the phone. “Yes, ma’am.”

CHAPTER7

“Ithink you’ll really love this place.” Scott held out her chair for her, and Savina smiled at him as she sat down.

“Thank you. I remember hearing good things when the Bronze Blossom opened last year, but I haven’t had the chance to try it yet.”

“They make a great carbonara dish.” Scott was staring around the restaurant, and he seemed jittery and nervous.

“Is everything okay?” Savina asked.

“Yep, just great.” Scott’s smile struck her as false, but she returned his smile before studying the mid-sized restaurant. It was about half-full, and she liked the casual atmosphere and the blue monochromatic colour scheme.

A blonde woman with badly-drawn eyebrows and lips painted a frosted pink stopped at their table. She wore the servers’ black pants and white shirt uniform and plunked two menus on the table.

“Welcome to Bronze Blossom. Our special tonight is….”

The server trailed to a stop, her entire body stiffening as she stared at Scott. Anger crossed her face, and Savina blinked in surprise when the woman turned a smoking hot look of hatred her way.

Her nostrils flaring, she said, “My name is Tabitha. I’ll be your server tonight.”

“Hello, Tabitha,” Scott said, his voice squeaking a little when he said her name. “I’m Scott, and this beautiful woman is my date Savina. She’s forty-three but looks thirty-three, don’t you agree? I’ve never seen a woman this gorgeous in my life.”

“Uh, hello,” Savina said, alarm bells clanging to life in her head.

“Nice to meetcha’.” If Tabitha could set her on fire with her gaze alone, Savina would be in dire need of a fire extinguisher.

“I’ll have a beer, whatever’s on tap, and what would you like to drink, gorgeous?” Scott gave her a broad smile, but a weird light shone in his gaze and his fingers tapped out a staccato beat on the table.

“A glass of your house wine, please,” Savina said.

“Coming right up,” Tabitha said.

She turned and started to walk away, stopping and giving Scott a falsely sweet smile when he grunted out a curse. “That was my foot you just stomped on.”
