He grinned as he declared. "I haven't assumed anything. I will manifest it," he said, smiling.

I gave him a skeptical look. "Yeah, whatever."

"Anyway, I have news for you that I'm sure you'll want to know." Apollyn threw his cloth napkin on the table and leaned back in his chair.

I groaned. "What now?"

Apollyn will reveal that he has seen what's happening on earth and can see that Finn is very ambitious. Since the coven and the church have abandoned Finn, he entered politics andran for office when the former senator was forced to step down after news of his infidelity against his wife with Finn's mother broke out. Finn is now senator.

"I can see what's been going on down there on Earth, and it's clear to me that Finn is very ambitious."

"What has he done now?" I asked.

"After the coven and the church abandoned him, he took an interest in politics and ran for the office of Senator."

"What? He has no political background!" I exclaimed, astounded by the news."

"He must've fooled the citizens outright then."

"I thought we already had a senator."

When reports emerged about the ex-senator's affair with Magda, he was immediately ousted. And now, lo and behold, Finn is the newly-appointed senator. That's a bold power move."

"You're right. He is ambitious," I said, thinking about what Finn said before I let him out. He wanted to be all-powerful.

Apollyn continued, "He's a witch like you. Carrier blood. I see that he wants more power and influence. I can't have him as a threat to me, not in this realm or any other."

"Don't tell me you plan to off him like you did Magda?" I said, sarcastically.

"Maybe I will, but I want to see how far he's willing to go. I like to sit back, watch, and laugh."

"Of course you do."

"I understand your hesitance, Sadie, but he took advantage of you, used you for his own gain. And now he's using your coven and the witches who might follow him for his own purposes. I'd like to know what they are before I send him down into the depths of hell."

I sat in silence, considering Apollyn's words. I did wonder what Finn was up to, but I didn't know if I was ready tofully align myself with someone as powerful and dangerous as Apollyn.

"I have one more thing to show you," Apollyn said,

"I have to prepare and train you first, which is why I insist you stay in Shadow World for the time being." He fixed her with a stern gaze. "But make no mistake, Sadie, one day you will be free to do absolutely anything your heart desires.

“You could’ve given your sons the means to do this,” I said bitterly. “But instead, you cast them out of Shadow World, so they wouldn’t challenge your authority as king.”

"That is not all accurate." Apollyn looked at me confidently. "My sons were not bred to rule Shadow World, they were bred to protect it."

"Protect Shadow World? From what?"

"From the outside forces that seek to destroy it, of course. Adversaries do not understand the power that exists here and they will stop at nothing to gain control over it. My sons were spawned to ensure that doesn't happen. They are the first line of defense for our realm and they know that."

Sadie, with a hint of disbelief, will say, "And you think I can help with that?"

Apollyn nodded. "I do. You have a unique connection to the earth and to our realm. With the right training, you could be a valuable asset in our defense." He tapped the table with his knuckles. "You'll have time to think about it. I have special place I'm going to take you when we're done here."

I frowned. "Special place? Where are you going to take me?"

"Don't worry about that yet. First, I have a gift for you."

He pulled out a glass globe, the surface shimmering with an inner light of its own. With a flick of his wrist, the surface swirled like water, and images began to take form. I saw his sons in my apartment, laughing and carefree as they attempted to cook something. The kitchen was a mess, but even still I couldn't helpbut smile. An overwhelming sense of relief washed over me as I realized that I had saved them. Apollyn abruptly took the globe away and the vision faded, but that brief moment was enough for me to know that my loved ones were safe.
