“Were you?”

“I was.”

“Me too.”

“Confession time. Did you touch yourself while watching the movies?” I asked.

“Yes. How about you?”

“I touched myself several times.”

Zac blew out a hard breath. “We’ve really gotta change the subject matter—I’m starting to get hard from talking about all of this. I’m imagining you touching that delectable treasure trove of yours and making yourself cum.”

I glanced around the parking lot through my car windows and then quickly turned off my cellphone’s Bluetooth connection, ending Zac’s voice coming through the speakers. There were people going to and coming from their own cars and I didn’t want any of them to hear where I knew my conversation with Zac was about to go despite his request to change the subject matter.

“And I’ve already imagined you getting yourself off more times than you know,” I said, holding my phone to my ear.

“Okay, I just had to adjust myself. Do you even realize what you do to me, Stevie? How easily you get me aroused?

“Yes. And I like that I can. Do you realize how easily you make me get wet?”

Zac blew out another hard breath. “I have a pretty good idea.”

“You should have a really good idea by now. And the thing is—you don’t have to be anywhere near me for me to get turned on by you. All I have to do is think about you.”

“As a man, it feels really good to hear you say that.”

“And as a woman, it feels really good to hear you tell me that I turn you on like I do. For a long time, I felt unwomanly. Undesirable. I know my feeling that way was due to me shutting down after I lost my Malcolm. It took away everything feminine about me except for my physical appearance. I just didn’t see the point of struggling to keep my inner woman alive when I felt so dead inside, and it wasn’t until I saw you at the running trail that first time that the woman inside me started coming back to life. During those few seconds of us running toward each other, I allowed myself to be completely attracted to you,” I said, clearly recalling that moment.

“Why me, though?”

“There was something about you, Zac. Something different that I saw in your eyes. When we finally met each other at Mystic Bar, I saw it again and it pulled me right in.Youdid. I swear, it was so hard keeping my attraction to you at bay while we were at the bar that evening.”

“Same here. I could hardly keep my eyes off you.”

“I know, and I could hardly keep mine off you. As a matter of fact, Brooke teased me about the way that I kept staring at you.”

“When did she do that?”

“Right after we left, while she was taking me back to my car.”

“Well—since we’re confessing things, I’ll go ahead and tell you that while we were at Mystic Bar, Brooke texted me. Literally, while sitting across the table from me and next to you.”

“What did she text you?”

“About the way that I kept staring at you. She noticed it and was teasing me about it.”

I had to laugh. “Oh, Brooke. Was she really teasing you, or just momma-bearing you? It’s obvious how close you two are.”

“Yeah, we are close. She’s like a second mom to me in a lot of ways. She’s been an ear to listen to me and a shoulder for me to lean on during a lot of the B.S. I’ve gone through with Avery.”

“You’re lucky to have Brooke in your life and she’s lucky to have you. She told me that you’re like a son to her.”

“Yeah, she’s told me that several times too. I love Ms. District Attorney and think the world of her. She’s a great soul.”

“I agree.”

“And to answer your question about her either teasing or momma-bearing me, she was doing a little of both that night. One thing that she texted me was ‘Easy tiger’. Then she asked me to admit to something.”
