“You are the love of my life, and I want you to know I’m never letting go of you—even if you were to let me go.”

We smiled at each other through the tears in our eyes, and then Zac leaned over and kissed me. I crawled into his lap and rested my head against his chest while he rocked me back and forth underneath this starry September night sky.

“What would you like to do today, Sinclair?” Zac asked.

“Since it’s our last full day in Destin, I’d like to do all we can.”

“Such as?”

“Go to the beach, play in the ocean, day-drink, boil the shrimp you bought, and then watch a movie in the entertainment room here at this gorgeous beach house that I still can’t believe you rented for us. I’d also like to take another dip in the swimming pool, fuck each other in it, relax in the hot tub again and then fall asleep in your arms in our comfy king-size bed with the ocean breeze blowing through the open patio doors all night. Sound good to you?”

“Sounds heavenly to me.”

“Then it’s a date.”

“Deal. But you left out one thing.”

“What?”

“Eating dinner somewhere. I’d like to take you someplace nice.”

I reached up and ran my fingertips across Zac’s lips and then along his bearded jawline. “You’ve already taken me to so many nice places to eat and I appreciate it so much.”

“I know you do.”

“If you don’t mind though, let’s just stay here this evening and not drive anywhere.”

“I don’t mind doing that at all. We can always have something delivered for dinner.”

Zac leaned over and kissed my forehead at the same time my cellphone chimed on the nightstand. As soon as I read the text message, I smiled.

“My dad is checking to see how I’m doing,” I said, looking back over at Zac. “I need to call him later and catch up on everything. We haven’t actually talked on the phone in over a week.”

“Call him now if you want to.”

“No, first things first. Let’s go to the beach and then we can start working on the rest of our to-do list.”

For a quick and easy breakfast, Zac and I ate some leftover raspberry kolaches from the day before. Then we put on our swimsuits, grabbed two towels and two bottles of water, and headed to the shoreline.

“Do you wanna take a walk this morning or are you ready to go jump in the water?” Zac asked.

“Let’s take a walk. I wanna find some more seashells.”

We took our time making our way along the water’s edge and I didn’t realize how far we’d gone until I turned around to look behind us.

“This is the furthest we’ve ever walked down this beach,” I said.

Zac glanced over his shoulder. “Wanna keep going?”

“Why not?”

My handsome lover smiled and then leaned over, stealing a quick kiss from me. A couple of minutes later, I noticed a family ahead of us that was coming our way: a man and woman with two young children who appeared to be the same age based on their height. One of them was a little boy with red hair, and the little girl had a headful of black curls that cascaded down her back.

As the family got closer, the little girl and boy took off running towards a cluster of seashells on the shoreline. They both jumped up and down and squealed with excitement, then started picking up the different treasures the tide had brought in.

Zac and I both waved at the parents as we neared them and their little shell hunters, and they waved back.

“Good morning,” Zac and I said at the same time.
