Standing in the middle of her bedroom, we undressed each other, and then Stevie told me to lie down on her bed on my back. After I did, she lit all the candles in her room, turned off all the lights, and then got on top of me. Not on my cock because it wasn’t hard yet. She stretched out and rested her body on top of mine, and then I wrapped my arms around her. Feeling the warmth of her skin and the warmth of her breath blowing against my neck was all it took for me to be ready for this beautiful woman to love me.

She took it slow and was so gentle as she moved her body up and down on top of mine. I kept expecting Stevie to start moving faster and harder but she didn’t. She just stayed steady and completely focused on me. Our bodies were moving in sync and the breaths we were taking matched. Several minutes passed and finally, I came. When I was done, Stevie took a deep breath and smiled at me.

“Better now?” she asked.

“So much better. Whenever I’m with you, everything disappears. The chaos in my life, the disorder—all of it.”

“Same here.”

“I love you.”

“And I love you. Let’s just go to sleep now, okay? It’s so late.”

“But what about you? I wanna take care of your needs.”

“You already have, Zac. You’re here with me and I get to fall asleep in your arms tonight.”

“Really, I don’t mind.”

“Shhh,” she said, placing her finger against my lips. “Please just hold me. I need to cry again.”

Stevie and I slept in until almost ten o’clock and neither of us could believe it. It went without saying that we needed the rest.

“You stay here in bed,” she said, getting up out of it.

“And where are you going?”

“To make us some coffee. Sound good to you?”

“Yes, it does.”

After opening her curtains, Stevie walked out of her bedroom completely naked and I just smiled. Waking up like this with her was something that I could do every day for the rest of my life.

While listening to Stevie down the hallway, I took the time to really look around her bedroom in the morning sunlight. There was ocean and beach décor on top of her dresser and the nightstands and also on the walls. Nothing gaudy. It was all tasteful and had Stevie written all over it. Some way and somehow, I was going to get that mermaid back to the ocean. I wanted to take her on a trip that neither of us would ever forget but I just had to figure out how to make that getaway happen.

I looked over at the nightstand closest to me and thought about picking up the tiny urn sitting on top of it so that I could take a closer look. I’d seen it before but hadn’t mentioned it to Stevie. I already knew, though, that her son’s ashes were inside it.

I could still hear Stevie in the kitchen, so I decided to take a closer look at the urn. It appeared to be made of heavyaluminum and had a Celtic design inscribed on it, front and back. It was unique, and I could see Stevie choosing it because of her reverence for her Scottish ancestry. She wanted the remains of her son to be protected by ancient symbolism. I would have wanted that too.

“It’s pretty, isn’t it?” she asked, startling me as she was walking back into her bedroom.

“Yes. I hope you don’t mind me looking at it.”

“I don’t mind. Feel free to ask me anything you want about my Malcolm, too.”

I carefully set down his urn and then moved over so his mother could sit beside me while we drank our coffee in bed.

“I do have a question for you,” I told Stevie.

“What is it?”

“Have you had any more dreams about your Malcolm?”

“Yes. Two.”

“Was he an infant?”

“No. He appeared to be around four years old again—and he looked so much like your Malcolm,” Stevie said, smiling up at me.
