“Something feels a little weird. I am going to have to ask Benjiro about the last scan. I had to go to the bathroom. He was all charged up and happy. I thought it was just because everything was good.”

Polly patted her and walked off to find Benjiro. He bent his head down to her, and she spoke in his ear. He paused, smiled, and whispered back. Polly put her hand over her mouth and laughed. She then appeared to pinky swear with Benjiro. Soothing reassurance came at her from Polly and Benjiro, along with a heavy giggle. At least there was nothing to worry about.

Olly sipped at the pineapple juice that Taio brought her, and Lady Fen walked up to sit next to her. “Hello, granddaughter?”

“Lady Fen.”

“Call me Zumu, please.” Fen stroked her hair away from her face. “You make a lovely bride. Thank you for adhering to our traditions.”

“It’s fine. I don’t have any. I ditched all of my family except for Polly a decade ago.” She looked to the area where the guys were talking with other family members. “The Thorn Thunder is all I have left.”

She smiled and watched her party.

“I thought your friends would be with you,” Fen said.

“They are dancing with their mates. They have been buzzing around all day. They need to enjoy the party, too. I have already been fussed over enough today. The only fussing I want today is from my mates.”

Olly sighed as Fen stroked her cheek.

Fen smiled. “You don’t seem very interested in the presents.”

“They are all addressed to Feng. It’s fine; I have what I need. I am just glad that my GED is done. Now I can make a little more money for a college fund for the baby.”

“What? You want to work?”

“Well, yeah. Being dependent on the guys doesn’t sit right with me.” She grimaced. “And I want to pick my own clothes. I have destroyed more silk than I can count. I mean, I know that skirts will be more convenient as I get rounder, but I miss jeans and cargo pants.”

Fen chuckled. “You miss cotton.”

“Yeah, absolutely. I can still move pretty well, and I have to keep rescuing my workout gear from the corners of Benjiro’s closet. I am pretty sure that Feng puts it there.”

“He’s a fan of your legs.” Fen chuckled. “And the rest of you. He was a brash young man, and women came easy, but when he collided with you, he stopped catching the betas who jumped on his lap.”

Olly chuckled. “He collided with me eleven years ago. That’s when the mark showed up. My parents beat the hell out of me for getting the tattoo, but it didn’t go.” She paused. “Lady Fen, are you pushing my brain around?”

“Um, a little bit, child. I just needed to understand a little more about how this has worked. I have other unusual grandchildren, and I want to know how it works.”

“Well, as far as we can tell, we are betas who can be activated by a specific alpha. The mark appears after that as a way to get us back together.”

Fen paused in her stroking of Olly’s cheek. “So, you became a fighter to get close to him.”

Olly nodded. “I just wanted to stay close. I approached him two years ago and then had to deal with the consequences.”

In three minutes, Fen had gotten the details about the aftermath of the moment with Feng, and she had gone very quiet. “You still accepted him after all that?”

“I had no choice. The dragon was across my back. It was taking up all the real estate. It wasn’t an option or an obsession for me. He was just my mate. Asshole or not, I was going to be attached to him eventually. Even if you objected.”

Fen sighed. “I am so sorry for that. It was a situation beyond my understanding.”

“I know. I also know that Feng had been willing to cut you out of his life if you had persisted, so that was comforting.”

“I am very glad I came to my senses.” Fen chuckled and stroked her cheek again.

Olly turned toward her. “So am I. I can hold a grudge forever. Six months from now, you will meet your great-grandchild. It is good that it can happen.”

Fen hugged her. “Thank you. If another marked beta comes to the family, I will behave better.”

“Don’t hurt yourself; just treat them as a possible source of more grandbabies and great-grandbabies.” Olly smiled. “That is an inducement to be pleasant.”
