She went to eat dinner with Caber and Jess when Melbourne came home, kissed Jess, and settled in for dinner.

Olly was nearly done with her stew and biscuits when her phone went off.

Aren’t you with him? Olly! Where are you?

Not with him. Not too far away. Got a day job. Can someone get him the message?

Minoru is on it. He’s going through his uncle, Delun. Come to my place, and we can take care of you.

Why is everyone obsessed with taking care of me? I am fine. No illness, sickness, or vomiting.

She looked at the others at the table. “Sorry. My sister is insisting that I need to be taken care of.”

Melbourne frowned. “Generally, that is what the alphas do.”

“Well, I found one for whom that was not the priority. He already has a beta. Lucky me.” She had a glass of milk and blinked. Something was happening. She whirled and threw up in the sink.

She rinsed the sink and washed her face.

Melbourne had his phone out. “We’ll find him for you. What’s his name?”

“Feng Zhang. His beta is Taio. He’s not a fan of mine.”

Jess and Melbourne whistled. Melbourne shook his head. “Well, that’s not what I expected.”

Jess looked at him and smiled. “Google Olly Thorn.”

Melbourne looked from his phone to Olly and back again. “You arethatOlly?”

“Yeah. I was. Then I suffered injury after injury from attacks out of the ring. I retired quietly and got the hell out of dodge.”

Melbourne frowned. “You were being attacked?”

“Yeah, one of the fighters started to spread the rumour that I was good to go. I had to prove that I wasn’t.”

“Well, I am still going to find him. I don’t want to see you in the same condition Jess was in. She wasn’t keeping anything down because her alpha wasn’t around.”

Jess nodded. “It’s a stark state of affairs when the best thing that you can wear is a smelly t-shirt, and you like it.”

Olly ate another biscuit with some jam, and when she could keep it down, she made to head to her bed in the barn. Jess stopped her. “You are taking a guestroom.”

“I am not.”

Jess stood in front of the door with her hands on her broad hips. “You are.”

They glared at each other, and Caber just walked in with Olly’s bag. He walked past her with a smug grin and up the stairs to the guestroom.

Jess put her hand on Olly’s shoulder. “That’s what alphas are supposed to do. Take care of the people they are responsible for. If they weren’t, I wouldn’t be here.”

Olly sighed. “I hate the fuss.”

“You have never had anyone to fuss over you.”

Olly paused. “Polly tries, but she has other folks to take care of.”

Jess hugged her. “I want to fuss.”

“Don’t you dare.”
