“Oh, okay.” Polly looked at Benjiro and Feng. “Do either of you have time to take her in for a medical check?”

Minoru stood near Polly. “Have either of you registered her as a dependent?”

Benjiro winced. “No. We haven’t done either. We prioritize wardrobe.”

Olly mumbled, “That I don’t wanna wear.”

Feng sighed. “You look lovely in all of it.”

“I don’t fucking care if I look lovely. I am not an omega. It isn’t part of the beta job description to be pretty.” She looked at Polly. “Can I go home with you?”

Polly stroked her cheek. “No, sweetie, but I will be here if you need me, and I am very glad you called.”

Feng asked, “How did she call you?”

Olly looked at him dizzily. “How did I call you, dumbass? Polly and I used to be the same person. I can call her. She can call me, and if I can’t get there, I can take action.”

Minoru rubbed the bridge of his nose. “I can confirm that.”

Benjiro blinked. “You hear each other all the time?”

Polly smiled. “No. When I reach or feel panic, or she reaches or feels panic, we get the idea, and we help if we can. She’s been under stress for a decade. She reaches out infrequently.”

Olly drooped, and to her surprise, it was Taio who caught her. He caught her with a rapid move and pulled her tight to his chest.

Polly smiled at them. “I thought you didn’t like her.”

“I always had a crush on her, but she turned me down, and that got my ego in a twist. I know better now, but I am hurt that my education came at her expense.”

The doctor came in with a sheaf of pamphlets that he handed to Feng. “The bill is at the desk. If the cramping continues, come back in, but she should be seeing a prenatal specialist as soon as possible.”

Feng nodded and went to take care of the bill.

Benjiro asked Taio, “Should I take her?”

“No, I have her. She’s surprisingly light.”

He smiled, and Olly didn’t care as long as she was still pregnant and a little bit stoned. That pill had quite the kick.

Chapter Six

Benjiro had her on his lap while they watched some of her bouts from her first few days to the last. “You are quite vicious in a fight, little one.”

She clutched his shirt and shrugged. “If I win, I get paid. I liked to get paid, so I won a lot.”

She recognized the end of her championship bout by the announcer’s astonishment.

Benjiro stroked her thigh. “You were a champion.”

“Two years in a row. Then bleah.”

“Ah, that is when you went to speak with them.”

“Yup.” She sighed and was surprised when there wasn’t a flare of anger. She guessed talking about it had drawn out some of the venom that had poisoned her soul.

Feng moved to the couch and snagged her. “You drop your right when you use an uppercut.”

She settled on his lap and leaned against him. “Of course I do.”
