“So, are you saying you want to mess around with me outside of work?”

“No. Yes. I don’t know.”

I smiled. “Okay. I’ll keep my thoughts to myself,” I said. “But we need to talk about what happened last night.”

“I know,” she muttered.

“You don’t seem happy about it.” I ran my thumb over hers on the desk.

“I’m a little happy.” She smiled.

That smile made my whole world light up. I wanted to pick her up and swing her around the room. But I stopped myself. “After work, I’ll take you to my favorite place to eat. You up for that?”

“I just have to make arrangements for my mom.”

“She can come with us.”

Her smile disappeared. “She’s in no condition to travel.”

“It’s just up the street,” I explained, but she shook her head. “Okay. Let me know.”

She nodded just as James walked back into the room.

“I’m going to grab a couple of coffees. You want anything, James?”

“Sure, I take mine black.”

I left the boardroom and made my way to the kitchen. I found Erika stirring her mug of coffee.

“Good morning, Erika,” I said. “Lovely day, isn’t it?”

“Morning.” She sipped her coffee and smiled. “Aren’t you chipper this morning? What happened? Did Colton fire you?”

I barked out a laugh. “No. But that was a good guess.”

She tilted her head and narrowed her eyes. “You met someone, didn’t you?”

Her quick perception caught me off guard, and I may have stuttered. “Ah. No.”

“You did,” she said with a laugh and shoved my arm. “You met someone. Tell me all about her.”

I smiled. I couldn’t help it. Thinking about getting together with Grace seemed so natural and exciting. “She’s smart. Gorgeous. And snarky. You’d love her.”

She laughed and covered her mouth with her hand. “You nearly made me spit out my coffee. I will take that as a compliment.”

“You should.”

“Well, when do I get to meet her?”

As if on cue, Grace walked into the room. She stopped when she saw Erika and me laughing. “Sorry to interrupt,” she said.

“You aren’t interrupting,” I assured her. “Is there something you need?” I knew my voice gave away my need as I felt Erika’s eyes on me.

Grace ran a hand through her hair and walked past me. “No. Just came to grab some fruit I left in the fridge.”

I nodded and watched her as she bent down to grab a container from the bottom of the fridge. Her skirt stretched over a beautifully rounded ass.

Wait. Did she bend her knee just to tease me?
