“Don’t tell me to calm down! You haven’t been a brother to anyone in years. Years! I needed you in Italy and you refused to help me. Now, you sealed her fate. He’ll kill her next time.”

“Whoa. Hold on. What?” I gritted my teeth, pushing the Maserati to eighty, shifting across six lanes of traffic in order to take an exit off the highway. She’d never expressed this much hatred, her adoration of me something my parents joked about.

“She’s hurt. He hurt her!”

“Who are you talking about?”

“Nico. He beat her. Damn you. That wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t called off the wedding.”

What. The. Fuck? “Where is she?”

“She’s here. She came home crying and locked herself in her room. I had to break in.” Maria’s voice was shaking as she started to sob.

“I’m on my way. Lock the goddamn doors.”

“Okay. Okay. Just hurry.”

I nearly tossed the phone through the window. If that son of a bitch was responsible, he would be dead by nightfall. I had to concentrate on Theodora. However, it was time to bring Sarah home. If Joseph and Nico came after my sister, it was only a matter of time.

As I raced through the streets, I constantly glanced into the rearview mirror. I also couldn’t put it past the Morettis to plan a larger attack. What the hell did the asshole think he was going to accomplish by beating up my sister? I yanked the phone into my hand, dialing Dillon’s number.

“Bring her in,” I told him as soon as he answered the phone.

“The doc’s in surgery. Do you want me to interrupt?”

Shit. Shit. I slammed my hand on the steering wheel. “No, but as soon as she’s out, grab her and bring her to my condo for now.”

“You got it, Mr. Giordano.”

“And make certain security is beefed up around my parents’ house.”

“Did something happen?”

“Yeah, it did. Tonight we go hunting. Be prepared.”

Dillon snorted. “I’m always prepared.”

Once again, I ended the call, fuming from everything that had occurred. All I could think about was snapping Nico’s neck between my fingers. I would enjoy spending hours with the man, breaking bone after bone.

My heart thudding against my chest, I barreled through an intersection, barely avoiding hitting an oncoming car.

Calm down. Think.

I hadn’t gotten this angry since…

Fuck. Karma had manifested itself into pure evil. Maybe that’s all the family deserved. Well, to hell with fate or any other spiritual bullshit.

As I pulled into the gated neighborhood, I continued to scan the street. My parents had lived in the same house for thirty years, only recently renovating every room. While the area was secure, there wasn’t a single enemy who didn’t know where they lived. There were also easy breaches, allowing soldiers to get in on foot without being seen. I would need to rectify that.

Immediately.

I swung into the driveway, still going over twenty miles per hour, slamming on the brakes then barely cutting the engine before I jumped out. I didn’t bother pounding on the door, barreling inside and terrifying two of the house employees.

“Mr. Giordano!” one woman squealed.

“I’m sorry, Vanessa.”

“Your parents aren’t here.”
