“You're a literal dream,” Sebastian says, in a voice raw with emotion. “Thank you for choosing to spend your evening with me.”

I chuckle because suddenly I'm realizing that I would gladly spend a thousand more evenings like this with him if he allowed it. Being with him in any capacity makes me deliriously happy. Sebastian makes me happy.

“I love you,” I whisper in a soft, almost broken voice.

My heart feels close to bursting at the emotions that surge through me. How did this happen? How had I fallen so completely and hopelessly in love with this billionaire whom I’d been pretty sure I hated?

Sebastian doesn't say anything for minutes, and the anticipation that has surged begins to wilt. He rolls away from me, and my heart begins to break.

“Paislee. You're amazing.”

“You don't have to—” I say, cutting him short.

I’m not sure I wish to hear him try to reject me without hurting my feelings. My feelings are already brutally bruised. I've fallen for an emotionally unavailable man. A man who still clings to memories of a woman long gone.

I get up pretty quickly and grab the black gown he ripped off me of hours earlier. I struggle into it, avoiding looking in the direction of the bed.

“Where are you going?”

“The guest room,” I answer curtly.

“We can talk about this,” he says but doesn't make any attempt to get up.

“There is nothing to talk about,” I tell him.

It's the truth. There really isn't. He's made his feelings about me abundantly clear.

“Paislee...” He mutters when I grab my shoes and walk barefoot toward the door.

“Good night,” is the last thing I say before I open the door and allow it to close behind me.
