“Great. Thanks for studying with me last night.”

“Always.” He pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Dinner at your place or mine?”

“Let’s do mine. Justin and Aimee have been hanging out at your place, and they’re a little bit too much, sometimes.”

He laughed loudly. “Too much public affection?”

“Yep. I mean, I get it, but hold it in while your friends are around. She would hate it if we hung on each other all the time.”

He squeezed her side. “We could try that.”

“How did your interview go?” she asked, ignoring him. “Did you find out about your placement? Did you get Logan?”

His heart ached as she stared up at him, waiting for him to tell her how the summer would go. He couldn’t do it, not when they’d just mended things. A few more weeks, and he’d tell her. He had to be sure she loved him before making a long-distance commitment. “Not sure yet. They just gave us a checklist of things to have prepared.”

“Fun. Anything I can help with?”

He kissed her on the top of the head. “Yep.”

She stopped walking, and he took two steps without her before stopping. “Well, come on,” she said. “Tell me what it is.”

He tucked his hands behind his back and walked up to her. “Do you have plans for spring break?”

Her eyes widened. “Oh, that’s coming up, huh? Last year, Diane and I talked about visiting somewhere cool, but we didn’t make a decision. Why? Where are you going?”

He reached for both her hands and held them tight. “How would you feel about coming to Saint George with me?”

“Really? Um, yeah. That would be fi—wait a second.”

He tried not to smile. Gosh, she was adorable.

“Does that mean I have to meet your parents?”

“You mean do you get to meet my parents? Yes, of course. I live with them when I’m not at school. And to soften the blow, you’ll be staying at Cameron’s house with Diane. There’s no room at my house since they’re doing demolition on the main floor.”

“Wait, so Diane knows? She didn’t say anything to me.”

“Not yet, but Cameron should be asking her any minute. We talked about it this morning before Cameron went to class.

He continued toward her apartment as she debated. “I guess it would be fun if Diane went. And if things don’t work out with your parents, I can just stick by Cameron. He’s pretty cool. Diane will have to share, but—”

“Oh, no, you don’t,” he said, pulling her to his side. “I’m not going to let you out of my sight. If the sun is up, I’ll be at his house, or you will be at mine. My parents can get over it.”

She laughed. “Fine. I’m actually excited to see your childhood home. We never stayed anywhere for too long, so I can’t wait to see the little notches on the door where you grew and see the pictures on the wall of you growing up. It’s going to be awesome.”

“I don’t have those things,” he lied.

Her face fell in disappointment. “Really?”

“I’m just kidding. I haven’t allowed Mom to touch my room since the fifth grade. She can’t wait for me to get married so she can redo my Avengers wallpaper.” Oh, shoot. Had she thought more into that? “I mean, I’m not saying we should get married right now or at all.” His words fell out in a jumble, and she covered a chuckle as he tried backtracking.

They’d talked about marriage casually before. She knew he wanted kids and hopefully knew how much he liked her. But was it enough? Could their relationship last long distance? When it was the right time, he’d have to find out. As far as he was concerned, Holly had everything to do with his future.

Cameron and Diane drove down with another friend from their little city, leaving Eric to ride alone with Holly. Before they’d started dating, he knew how nice and happy she was, but he couldn’t believe how positive she stayed during the drive, even after he almost ran out of gas, had to change a flat tire, and she got sick after gas station tacos.

She’d refused to throw up until they’d reached a rest stop, and then she emptied her stomach into a trash can.

He grinned. “Glad to know you can hold it in. No more tacos for you.”
