Monroe

All summer I thought about one thing. Nixon. I thought about how we could throw caution to the wind and date. How he was my everything. How I couldn’t wait to be back in his arms again. But then I saw them. My two best friends… I’m not going to go there. While I was off bettering the world, he was moving on with Holly. Holly is the only girl friend I had. Obviously, I was blinded because she wasn’t a real friend at all.

I’m going to crush her this year. And him. Fuck Nixon Masterson. Here I was desperate to see him, and he hadn’t even thought about me. “How was Nix, honey?” My mom musses my hair, smiling at me.

“Busy.”

“Aww, well, you’ll see him soon. We have a cookout tonight with all the families to celebrate Jasmine and your success.”

I groan. “Mom, can I please stay at home? I’m tired.”

She gives me a sad smile. “Nope.”

My dad walks in, smiling, throwing his briefcase and opening his arms wide. “Come here, baby girl!” I run, leaping into his arms. God, I missed him the most.

“Daddy, I missed you so much.”

He drops a kiss to my hair. “I’m so proud of you, Monroe,” he whispers.

“Thanks, Daddy.” I smile against his chest.

“Now, go get ready, we got shit to do.” He drops me to my feet as I laugh at his broodiness.
