“I don’t know how else to say this, Brother. Get. Lost.”

“Is that anyway to talk to your favorite—”

“What do you want, Max?” I sighed, trying to play it cool, when really I felt like the ground was falling away beneath me.

“I need you to hook me up.”

“Hook you up?” My brows furrowed.

“Yeah. There’s a guy across the res. I want an introduction.”

“No,” Celeste said. “No freaking way.”

“I think Harleigh wants to help me. Isn’t that right, Harleigh?” A smug grin spread over his face.

“Max, come on… this isn’t fair—”

“What do you say, Harleigh? Want to help me out? I’ll make it worth your while.”

“I don’t trust you.” I folded my arms on the table.

“You don’t exactly have much of a choice. Not unless you want me to reveal all your dirty little secrets to Dad.”

“Max!”

“Butt out, Sis.” He cut Celeste with a scathing look. “This is between me and Harleigh. So what do you say?”

“Harleigh, you don’t have to do this.”

But what choice did I have?

I’d just got Nix back. I didn’t want to jeopardize that, not yet. Not until we’d figured out things.

“Fine,” I said. “I’ll help you.”

Max slammed his palm down on the table, a wicked glint in his eye. “Right answer, Sis. Right fucking answer.”
