“Have we met?” I counter. “I’ll fly in any designer you want and lock them in a room until the work is done.”

Her lips part as she reaches for her drink. “You’re barbaric.”

But her reluctant smile is all the encouragement I need.

“Anything for you.”

I mean it. There’s nothing I won’t do for my future wife. The sooner she figures that out, the better.

I nod to our waitress. “Put dinner on my account. Now"—I turn back to my friends—“if you’ll excuse us, we have another engagement.”

I tuck Raegan’s hand in mine and pull her out of her seat and toward the door.

“You going to tell me where we’re going?” I ask Harrison as we pass the iconic dancing fountains in front of the Bellagio and head into the opulent hotel.

“You’ll see.”

We wind through the stunning halls filled with gold and art, but I’m still tense from our words at the restaurant. Forcing Leni to work on her holiday. Joking about locking the designer in a room in a way that suggested it wasn’t quite a joke.

I love Harrison, but he’s used to doing things on his terms—and his terms are often entirely unreasonable.

This quick wedding was a bad idea.

The thought has just slipped into my mind when Harrison draws to a stop in front of a boutique with its signature handwriting.

“Tiffany?”

Behind the glass is an elegant semicircle of cases, glittering contents visible from beyond the store in an enticing array designed to make hearts race. The shiniest of shiny objects beckon, each one unique and tantalizing.

He holds the door, and I head inside.

The guard locks the door behind us, our security content to stay on the other side of the glass.

Harrison laughs at my skeptical expression. “It’s to keep everyone else out,” he promises.

“Can’t blame a girl for being on her toes. You locked me in your villa once.”

“I did, and it cost me my favorite jacket.”

His warm tone coaxes a smile from me as I recall the Brioni I tossed in the pool in retaliation for his controlling behavior.

“You can’t possibly think I need more jewelry.” I glance around the store. “You said the ring came with a matching wedding band.”

“No. I thought…” His voice lowers, uncertainty creeping in as he shoves both hands in his pockets. “I thought you might like to choose one for me.”

My heart skips.

In the time we’ve known each other, the wall he used to guard himself from the world has come down.

When he proposed, he knelt before me. He’s kneeling again now, even as he stands at my side. His words are as humble as any action.

“Did Eva…?” I trail off, thinking of the woman he planned to wed once.

A headshake. “I wasn’t intending to wear one. It wasn’t conducive to my business.”
