“You too,” Dominic says. He turns to Xander, and they have some sort of silent conversation before moving to the far side of the room and speaking in hushed tones.

Once Brooke is gone, Felix lets out a snicker. “You’ve got it bad, dude.”

“I’m gonna kill you,” Blaze growls.

But Felix is barely paying attention to him. Instead, he’s heading straight toward me. “Sophia, do you know who Brooke was on the phone with?”

“What? Uh, no. I was in the bathroom.”

He raises an eyebrow, unamused. “I know you were listening.”

I bite my lip. This isn’t any of Felix’s business. Hell, it’s not even mine.

“Did you not see how tense she was?” Blaze snaps. His voice is slightly raised, and I get the feeling he can’t control it. “She sat there on the couch like a cornered little kid.”

“It could be nothing, Blaze. Maybe she had a bad day. So just chill. David doesn’t even know she’s found the hard drive yet.”

I tense. That’s exactly what Brooke’s phone call had been about. “Who’s David?”

“Her ex-fiancé,” Felix says, flopping into an overstuffed chair. “The fucker is—”

“That’s enough.” Xander rejoins our conversation, pulling me into him. When he looks down at me, his brows furrow. “What’s wrong?”

I hesitate. But looking around the room, I find three men with nothing but concern in their eyes. Concern for Brooke. Whatever just happened, the only thing they care about is Brooke’s safety.

“If she was on the phone with David,” I say slowly, “then that would be a bad thing?”

Felix’s face falls, and he leans forward. “Very. He’s dangerous. Was it him?”

I nod.

“What did he want?” Xander’s voice is completely calm. When I hesitate, he strokes my arm. “I need the absolute truth from you, Sophia.”

“He—he asked her about a hard drive. Said he wanted it back. Then he threatened her.”

Blaze swears, grabbing his keys from the coffee table. “I’m going over there. If anything happens to her—goddammit, I knew she shouldn’t’ve moved back out on her own.”

Dominic moves to stop him, but Xander holds up a hand.

“Out of all of you, he has her best interest at heart the most. And I’m not leaving Sophia’s side unless I have to.”

Dominic grits his teeth but nods. Blaze is already rushing out the door, yelling that he’ll text with updates when he has them.

“What exactly did David say?” Dominic snaps, whirling to face me. “Verbatim.”

“He just said that she didn’t know what he was capable of. Then he told her to bring the hard drive to the bar, and that she had half an hour. But that was...” I trail off, glancing at my phone for the time. “Almost two hours ago.”

Leaning forward in his seat, Felix says, “Dom, do you want me to go after him? Just in case things get messy.”

Messy? What kind of messy? What the hell is going on?

Dominic shakes his head. “Blaze can handle himself. Just make sure the drive is secure.” With that, he starts pacing the length of the living room. “I hoped we’d have more time.”

I glance between the three men. Worry is etched into their faces, although I can barely tell when I look at Xander. Hell, I might even be projecting.

But that’s not what matters. Their mysterious meeting earlier already had my curiosity piqued. And now this? If they have David’s hard drive, does that mean it’s connected to whatever shit they’ve got going on with Tristan? Does that mean Brooke is involved?

A shiver runs through me, and I couldn’t be more grateful when Xander pulls me into him. My head rests on his chest, and I take in his perfect smell.
