Then his new partner slipped up, and our suspicions were confirmed. The Goodwins do business in too many unethical, slimy ways.

Covering up the one percent’s messes and crimes.

Silencing possible threats to deadly secrets.

Drug trafficking.

But that wasn’t even the worst part. The worst part was that Tristan’s partner in crime was none other than my little sister’s fucking fiancé.

Originally, we weren’t going to do anything except turn them over to the FBI. But, as it turns out, being a senator’s grandson practically gives you goddamn immunity in this country. Lucky bitches.

There’s a knock on the door. Felix slips in, holding a tablet in his hands. His face is grim.

“Did you get anything else off the hard drive?”

“Unfortunately, yes.” Felix lowers his eyes to the ground. “This isn’t good, guys. I’ve got a list of about fifty names—almost all female, some androgynous.”

“That’s all?” Dominic drums his fingers on the desk.

“The names repeat every so often. With dollar amounts.”

“Jesus Christ,” I murmur.

“Whatever Tristan has David in charge of, it’s not the usual shit. We’ve got their books, but not for what we thought we’d find. Guys, this is—this is bad.”

Felix is gripping the tablet so hard I’m worried it’s going to break. And without even looking at Dom, I can feel the tension rolling off of him. He’s always had a soft spot for kids.

I fight the urge to kidnap Sophia and get her the hell out of here. To keep her in some secluded cabin in the middle of nowhere until I know she’ll be safe.

“God, I’m such an idiot.” I rub my hands over my face, and Dominic grunts in response.

Felix stays silent, thankfully.

“We need to figure out how to get ahead of them,” Dominic says. “And then stop them for fucking good.”

“Or we could just kill them,” I say, glancing at my watch.

“No. If they’re involved in human trafficking, killing them isn’t enough. I need to make sure their whole operation is destroyed.”

Good point.

I nod, glancing at Felix. “Does Blaze know?”

“I came here as soon as I looked over the list. My team is still going through the rest of the drive, so it may be a while before we have the whole picture.”

Dominic gives him a curt nod, and Felix leaves.

“On second thought,” I say, “I think I’ll ask Sophia to move in with me.”

WHEN SOPHIA OPENS the front door, her eyes widen.

“Alexander.” She tugs at the sleeves of her hoodie, avoiding my gaze. Her eyes are puffy and bloodshot.

My heart stops for a moment. “What happened?” Shoving my way in, I pull her into my arms. “Are you okay?”

“What? Yeah, I—I’m fine. Just had a bad day, that’s all.”

Earlier today, Sophia texted me to let me know she was taking the day off work because of a stomachache. I missed driving her. But now it won’t matter. I’m not leaving this house until Sophia comes with me.
