When he closes the door, I stretch with a yawn.

After we got home last night, Alexander had run us a bath and then given me a back massage. He’d been tense the entire time, but I didn’t prod him. Considering his argument with Dominic, I had a pretty good idea what was bugging him.

We’d fallen into bed pretty quickly, too tired for more than a little kissing. Alexander held back, for what reason I’m not quite sure. Is he really giving me space? Letting me figure out what I want?

What if it turns out I don’t want him?

The mattress moves again, and I realize I’ve closed my eyes. A hand brushes hair out of my face, and I let out a small moan.

“Good morning.”

I force my eyes open, and I’m greeted with an angelic smile. The morning sun sheds bright light on Alexander’s features, warming his brown eyes.

“Morning.” I push myself up into a sitting position, keeping the sheet over my breasts. “What time is it?”

“A little after nine.” He leaves a trail of kisses down my jaw. He smells of sweat and rain and the outdoors. “Coffee?”

I nod, brushing my hair behind my shoulders and getting a better look at him. His hair is slightly damp, along with his shorts. He’s not wearing a shirt, but his shoulders and chest are shining with moisture.

“Woke up early and couldn’t get back to sleep. Went on a run.” He hands me my coffee, kissing my nose. “I’m gonna hop in the shower real quick. Then I’ll eat with you.”

I sip my coffee slowly while he showers, feeling like absolute royalty. I could get used to waking up in this beautifully dark room, in this gigantic bed, with breakfast wheeled to us every morning.

If things actually work out like that.

I shiver. Why do my thoughts always have to sabotage my happiness?

I slip out of bed and put on some panties and my hoodie. Then I grab my coffee and stand in front of the windows, gazing out into the forest.

How does Alexander ever leave with a view like this?

I stay there, watching as light rain falls and the wind blows through the trees. My coffee is delicious, and I wish I could stay here forever.

“Fucking hell, Sophia.”

Turning, I find Alexander standing in the doorway of the bathroom. A towel is knotted at his waist, and his dark hair is messy and tousled.

“You know you can’t do that to me.” He’s behind me in a second, pressing my back to his front. His fingers trace over his name, embroidered over my heart in dark thread.

“Do what?” My voice is innocent, but I watch my reflection in the window as a wry smile takes over my face.

“I’ve been patient, little bird. Very patient. I had a hard enough time last night, seeing you in my jacket. I almost pulled you into a spare room so I could take you then. You can’t ask me to hold back when you wear this.”

“Who said I’m asking?” I set my mug on the windowsill before turning to face him. Placing my hands on his bare chest, I rise onto my tiptoes and kiss him.

With a grunt, he picks me up. He squeezes my ass as I lock my legs around him. His scent is intoxicating—clean and citrus and him.

Alexander wastes no time, tearing my underwear off but leaving the hoodie on. Maybe it’s because he knows I’m cold, or maybe it’s because he likes seeing his name on me.

He kisses me until I’m breathless. My hands pull his towel away, and he groans when I wrap my fingers around his hard cock.

“Please don’t stop this time,” I whisper.

He kisses my neck. “I won’t. I promise.” He twists a hand into my hair. “I lo- I—I teased you enough yesterday.”

He pulls my hand away, guiding his dick into my wet folds. It slips up, and he rubs it against my clit. He goes around in small circles before moving to an up-and-down motion, coaxing moans out of me with ease.

Finally, he stops, and his tip is replaced by his thumb. “Are you ready?” he whispers.
