Page 15 of Falling for Her

“How?” Hannah asks, my eyes flicking between Addison and Max, wondering when each of them is going to get their act together and give in.

“For one. Mark has more green in his eyes and Max has more blue, that’s the first dead giveaway.”

Max smirks, his fingers tightening on the armrest of the chair he’s sitting on.

“Plus, Max has a birthmark right behind his right ear that looks like a musical note.”

“Is that all?” Drew teases, watching the death glare that hangs between him and Addison.

Max gets up out of his seat and heads into the house and that’s when I pull my girl out of her chair and into my lap.

“What are you doing?” she asks, looking around and seeing the knowing looks between all my friends. “I was perfectly fine in my own chair.”

“That might be true, but you’ll be better here on my lap. Plus, if you’re sitting on my lap, I can do this,” I whisper, gently kissing up her neck and basking in the fit of giggles that comes out of her as she wiggles on top of me. “You keep that up and I’ll have to take you upstairs and show you just how much I love that ass sitting on my lap.”

She stills, her eyes molten as they stare directly into mine.

“Don’t tempt me, sweetheart,” I growl, kissing her lips gently just as Drew comes out with more drinks.

“Okay, I have drinks for everyone,” he states, giving everyone a beer and when he gets to Addison, she shakes her head. “What? You’re turning down alcohol, are you okay?” he teases and that’s when I notice all the color leaving her face.

“I’m fine. I just don’t feel like drinking.” She is lying, I can see it in her eyes and before I can say anything, Drew is on her.

“You never turn down free booze, it’s one of the reasons you come to these dinners in the first place. What’s up?”

She shakes her head, her chest rising and falling faster now and I know shit is about to hit the fan, I can sense it.

“Nothing is wrong!” she yells, getting up from her seat and making her way toward the sliding glass door that leads into the kitchen.

“The only way Addi would turn down booze is if she was pregnant,” Lucas chimes in, and the second the comment leaves his mouth, everything around us stops.

Addison freezes at the door, her shoulders bunched, and the reality of what Lucas just said sinks into the room.

“That can’t be true, right Addi?” Drew asks but when Addison doesn’t say a word, I know that’s it. I know that that is exactly the reason she turned down the beer and I close my eyes, waiting for all hell to break loose.

Hannah

I have no idea what to do as Drew stands, towering over his sister as she shrinks back against the glass door, her eyes closed. I knew the moment she denied the drink that she was probably pregnant, and right now I don’t blame her for wanting to keep that piece of information to herself.

“That can’t be true, right, Addi?” Drew’s voice is booming, his eyes full of anger and disbelief.

“It’s true.” Addison’s voice is small, resigned, and full of regret. “I didn’t want to tell everyone like that, I had a plan. I mean, I just told Brendan a few days ago.”

Max gets up from his chair and storms back into the house, while Lucas and Mark sit there in stunned silence. Cash still has his arms wrapped around me, pulling me close and kissing the side of my head as if he can sense the empathy that’s coursing through my body.

“So, he’s the father then? That little shit got you pregnant?” Drew yells, causing Addison to flinch and that’s the moment I get off Cash’s lap and walk toward them.

“Hey now,” I say, standing in front of Addison and blocking Drew from her view for a split second. “There’s no need for yelling. We’re all adults here, remember?”

In the corner of my eye, I notice Cash standing, ready to defend me, but he doesn’t get the chance because Addison takes things into her own hands and gently pushes me to the side.

“Yes, Brendan is the father. Yes, he got me pregnant and before you ask, no, I am not getting rid of it. So, you better buckle up, asshole, because in nine months you will be an uncle, whether you like it or not.”

Drew opens his mouth to say something but before he can, Addison is running past him and back into the house.

“You okay, man?” Lucas asks as Drew plops down on one of the chairs beside him, resting his head in his hands.

Drew says nothing, everyone lapsing into silence, shocked by what just happened.
