“I’m going into work. Yes, I know it’s a Sunday, but I want to work one last day before we leave.”

“Liv isn’t going to be happy.”

“I took today off, which was the best compromise we could come to since we’re not having a bachelor party. Besides, she’s going in too to make sure things are organized at her job before we leave. But I need someone to drop the music setlist off before the rehearsal. Can you do it?”

“Yeah, man.”

“Violet will be there.”

“Okay.”

“Charlie, I want to be sure everything is going to be okay without anyone else there.”

“No one’s been at the house, and neither of us are dead. She’s staying here, remember?”

“Right… which you’ve been oddly tight lipped about.”

“It’s not great, but we’re fine. I can handle running into her at the wedding venue. It’s practice for the big day, right?”

“Okay, but you need to promise me to walk away if she sets you off.”

“And go where? Home? She’s here too. She’s everywhere.”

In both his home and mind.

“Go on a walk or something. Come on, man. You offered to do this.”

Charlie sighed. Yeah, he had been the one to get himself into this situation.

“We’ll be fine. I’m just dropping something off.”

“Okay.” Lewis paused for a moment, and Charlie heard talking. “Liv is back. I’ll talk to you later, okay?”

“Yeah, man. Talk to you later.” Charlie hung up the phone right as Roo jumped up for attention. Charlie sighed – he had totally forgotten to mention his new cat to Lewis. Then again, his friend was so stressed maybe it was best that he waited.

Around that time, Violet pulled into the driveway.

He turned off his TV, wondering what kind of mood she would be in.

“Hey,” he said when she walked in.

“Hey yourself.” She shrugged her coat off, holding it in her hands. There was a coat rack next to the door, but she had yet to use it, content to keep her stuff in the guest room.

“How is the venue looking?” Charlie asked as Roo climbed on him to get attention.

Violet smiled at Roo’s antics, and Charlie felt himself look away.

“Almost done,” she said. Her smile fell as she looked from Roo to him. “I have to start setting out chairs tomorrow, but the decorations are there.”

“Lewis wanted me to come and drop some music off tomorrow.”

“Then I’ll see you there,” she turned to go up the stairs.

“Was it fun?”

Violet paused. “Why are you asking?”

“I’m kind of left out of this part of the wedding because of… you know, us fighting all the time. I haven’t even seen it.”
