“Hey Damon,” Charlie said, walking to his room. He locked the door behind him. “What’s up?”

“On a scale of one to ten,” his friend said, “how mad would Lewis be if someone did in fact hire strippers for Lewis’s bachelor party.”

Charlie’s mood plummeted. “You didn’t.”

“You’re right, I didn’t. Elijah did.”

Charlie held back a wave of insults he wanted to direct at Elijah. God damn it. Why didn’t this guy ever listen?

“Lewis specifically said he didn’t want strippers. He doesn’t want to do anything that Liv wouldn’t approve of.”

“Trust me, I know.” Damon sounded sincere. “I was fine with a night of Mario Kart, but Elijah already hired them. He says it’s his right to as a member of the party.”

“No, Lewis is going to be furious.” Charlie groaned. “This is the last thing I need right now. I’ll talk to him.”

Charlie got off the call, trying and failing to calm himself down before he dialed Elijah. He hated talking to him, but he was also Lewis’s friend.

“Yo, Charlie.” Elijah sounded relaxed, like he wasn’t even bothered about going against the one thing Lewis had wanted. “What’s up?”

“You hired strippers? Really?”

“Of course, man. He needs it before he’s stuck with one woman for the rest of his life.”

Charlie wanted to hit something.

“Lewis doesn’t want anything that would upset Liv at his bachelor party. You have to cancel the strippers.”

“What, you have a thing against good looking women?”

“It’s not about that. It’s that Lewis doesn’t want to look at other women the same week he’s getting married to Liv. You heard him say it.”

“Listen, I know my friend, and he needs to sample the menu before he ordered, if you know what I’m saying.”

“Dude, do you want to stay friends with him or not?” Charlie asked, his voice tight.

“I know him as well as you do. He’ll like it - chill out.”

Charlie pinched the bridge of his nose. Lewis would freak. There was one time he went to a strip club in college, and he called Liv crying thinking he had cheated on her. She hadn’t been happy about his whereabouts, but she had forgiven him.

It was one thing when it had happened while they were dating. But the same week of his wedding? Lewis would lose his mind. His poor friend was already working overtime to pay for the wedding and their honeymoon. He was worried that something was going to ruin his big day, and Elijah’s idiotic plan could easily do it.

Nope. Not on Charlie’s watch.

Maybe if he hadn’t been so unnerved by Violet’s attitude, or her refusal to accept any help, he could have found a way to talk Elijah down, or at least warn Lewis.

But fuck it. He was done.

“Actually, the whole thing is cancelled. Congratulations, Elijah, you blew it.”

“What?” Elijah said sharply. “You can’t cancel it.”

“I can. Lewis wants to work overtime anyways, and I’ll take it off his calendar.”

“Dude, are you insane?”

“Maybe I am.”

“What crawled up your ass?”
