“Sure," Violet said, grabbing a cup. “So, anything fun on the plan for today?”

“Nope. I have to go pick up Lewis and Liv from the airport.”

Violet looked shocked. “You’re doing that?”

“They asked me to.”

“Oh … they mentioned they had a ride, but I thought it was a cab or something.”

“No, they asked me to weeks ago," Charlie said. At Violet’s frown, he added, “I wouldn’t take it personally. My car is a little bigger than yours, I think.”

“Still," Violet said, pouting from the table. “I offered to do it, and I’d like to see them.”

“Liv probably knows you’re busy," Charlie said. “Besides, you said you needed to grade your students’ tests.”

Violet sighed. “I forgot about that. I need to have these test scores by Monday so I can know what my students are struggling with before standardized tests.”

“Sounds fun," Charlie said, sarcastically.

“It’s not.”

“Just come on Tuesday when we do game night again. You can see them then.”

“Okay fine. But if they seem off or weird in any way, I want to know about it.”

Charlie laughed. “It’s cute you’re so worried about them.”

Violet blushed, and Charlie wondered if maybe he was pushing things a bit far by saying that, but he couldn’t help it. It was cute.

“What time do you leave?”

“I should probably go now actually. I was hoping you would wake up before I left.”

“Be safe," Violet said, sighing. “And avoid Charlotte Avenue. They’re doing construction.”

“Thanks," Charlie said. “I’ll see you later.”

He resisted the urge to walk over to her. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to do, whether it was give her an awkward pat on the head, or something even more dangerous. But he walked out of the door instead.

Traffic was awful, but it usually was on Sunday mornings. By the time he got to the airport, he was already in a bad mood. But he was happy to see his friends safe and sound.

Everything had been put on hold for the wedding, so he and Lewis hadn’t gotten any time to hang out in over a month. Neither of them knew about Lauren or Violet, which felt weird considering he was used to telling Lewis everything.

“Taxicab for the Thompson’s?” Charlie joked when he pulled up to them.

Lewis and Liv had matching smiles.

And holy shit, they looked radiant.

Of course they would - they had been on the beach for almost three weeks. Both of them had saved up for this honeymoon, and they looked like they had lived it up while gone.

Charlie surprised himself by being a little jealous. Maybe he needed a vacation soon.

He could save up for it now he had help with bills. Maybe he could even invite Violet. He bet she would enjoy it.

“Hey, man," Lewis said.

“Glad to see both of you are in one piece.”
