“I could have this house inspected, if it would make you feel any better," Charlie offered.

“I couldn’t ask you for that," Violet said, quietly.

“I’ve been meaning to, actually. I had it inspected when I moved in, but it’s been a few years, so maybe another wouldn’t hurt.”

“You don’t have to do that for me.”

“There’s not much I wouldn’t do to make you feel better.”

Violet opened her eyes to roll them. “I seriously doubt that.”

Charlie only shrugged.

“Besides, I know this house is stable. Most of the time I’m fine. It’s when dreams like this happen.” Violet shrugged. “I think it would happen anywhere.”

“Even when we disliked each other,” Charlie said. “I knew it was something terrifying.”

“I thought you were more upset Liv asked for me to stay with you.”

“I was nervous, sure. But I knew even then I was going to let you. There’s no world where I would have said no.”

“That’s nice of you," Violet said. “And I’m glad I’m here. The idea of going back to another cheap apartment is a little scary. I’d rather be here.”

Violet’s eyes slipped closed again. Charlie’s bed was unfairly comfortable. He had a nice, fluffy comforter and his room was pleasantly warm. She drifted off before she could even stop herself.

When she woke up the next morning, she was still in Charlie’s room, but covered by his comforter. On his side table there was a note that read, Don’t worry - I slept in the guest room. Glad you finally got some decent sleep.

Violet blushed and looked around. She had fallen asleep with him? In his room?

Shit. Maybe she was more comfortable with him than she thought.

Charlie

Violet came out of his room, looking a little like a deer in headlights. Roo followed along happily.

“I’m not going to shoot you, you know," Charlie said from where he was pouring coffee in the kitchen. He was a little jealous that Roo obviously loved to be around Violet more than him.

He could hardly blame her though.

“I feel so bad for falling asleep in your room.”

“Wasn’t the whole point of us talking last night to fall asleep?”

“But still - this is your house, and that’s your room.”

“I have a feeling if it was me, you would have done the same thing.”

Violet opened her mouth to argue, but then shut it.

“Okay," she admitted sullenly. “You have me there.”

“Besides, it was good luck this happened on a weekend and not when we both had to work. You got to sleep in a little.”

“Yeah, I guess that’s one good thing about it," Violet said. “I still feel bad though.”

“I promise I’m not mad about it," Charlie said. “Coffee?”
