“Makes sense.What should we fight over?”
She laughed.“I can think of a few things.”
I chuckled.“Yeah, I guess I can too.”
“Garrett is going to help you get what you need to travel and let you know where and when.”
“Why are you doing this?Is it just to be with Zander?”
She shook her head.“No, it’s so that you can be with Angelina.Plus, it would be good to have someone on the outside whom I can communicate with.Consider it a scouting mission.”
“Thank you.”
“Hugh, I have to do something before you leave, though.”
“What’s that?”
“I am going to need to compel you.I can’t have you leaving here and being able to tell people where we are.”
“I won’t be able to come back?”
She shook her head.“No, you will be on your own until we open the doors, but I will come out here every night at sunset and wait to hear from you.So, if you need to tell me something, I will be here for the first thirty minutes of the night.”
“That should work.”
Kristin’s eyes changed as she began to talk, and then a few seconds later, she kissed my lips as I blinked, winked at me, and turned and walked away.
The next night, after having not slept all day, I was like a caged tiger and ready to pounce.When it was time, I let myself out of the room and walked down the stairs to the dining hall.Before I stepped in, I closed my eyes to prepare myself for what I needed to do.
I pulled up the anger I felt for all that had happened, and then I walked with purpose into the room, searching for her.She was seated at a table with Clayton, Garrett, Scarlett, Paxton, and Zander.Isaac sat at the table behind them.I would have to get her away from the table so Isaac couldn’t react fast enough.
I strode to the table.“We need to talk,” I growled at her.
She turned to look at me like I was annoying her.“We can talk later.”
“Now, Kristin!”I shouted and yanked her by the arm.Isaac growled as he got to his feet.
“Hugh, I suggest you get your hands off me,” Kristin said loud enough for others to hear.
“Then come here so we can talk.”
“What do you have to say that is so important?”she asked me hotly.
I pushed her to the side and knew that Zander had gotten up to block Isaac from getting to us.He might have been in on this, but it was going against the grain not to protect her.
“How about you tell me why you’ve been sleeping with Zander behind my back?”
Kristin jerked back slightly.“What are you talking about?”
“I’ve had it!Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about.I can smell him all over you!I’m your mate!You are not allowed to be with other men!”
Her eyes began to glow slightly.“How dare you!You, who has slept with half the women in this place, have no right to tell me who I can be with!You’re a male whore!”
I didn’t want to do this, but she had said it had to be done.I whipped my hand across her face, and the place went into an uproar.Before I could do anything else, several people grabbed hold of me and pulled me back.Zander and Isaac blocked the distance between Kristin and me as she hissed.
“You and I are done!Confine him!I want him locked down.How dare you strike me!You will spend the next six months in solitude!”she commanded, and I was dragged away, screaming hateful things that I didn’t mean.Just as I started to be pulled around the corner, I locked eyes with Zander.“Protect her and my child.”
“I will,”he responded immediately.
