My arm went around her back automatically.

“Marrying him without telling him. I was lying to him,” she sobbed.

Taking Eve’s chin, I made her look at me.

“Listen here, love. Hallow’s a lucky man. You’re probably the prettiest girl in Nashville. One of the feistiest, for damned sure. And you happen to have the voice of an angel. Hallow doesn’t want you, we’ll do what we planned to anyway.”

I’d promised I’d help her become a star.

With the conversation I had with Memphis tonight, I thought I should ask, “Are you sure you can’t get pregnant? How do you even know?”

Eve’s nose smashed against my chest, as she sniffed. Her tears were wetting my bare skin as she spoke into it.

“Because I’ve already lost our baby. My doctor said I shouldn’t even try again.”

The blonde howled against me.

Hurting for her, I wrapped both my arms around her and clutched the back of her head. Breathing in the smell of her sweet shampoo, I let her cry.

When she settled a bit, I asked, “Does Hallow know?”

Eve didn’t answer, but she’d been crying so hard, maybe she hadn’t heard me.

I asked again.

Her voice came unsteady. “Yeah, he knows that much.”

Petting her blonde hair, I saw red.

How could Hallow be so heartless? How could he blame Eve for running off if she’d been through such an ordeal? And the bastard complained about them not having sex after that? I had a sudden urge to stomp the fucker into the ground. It wouldn’t be good enough. He deserved a lashing. I pictured myself taking a blow torch and burning the tattoo of the Royal Bastards MC logo off his back myself.

Exhaling, I asked Eve, “Where are you sleeping tonight?”

“I’m over with Paisley.”

I’d help her there and go find Hallow. That was once Eve stopped crying. But looking up, I got a shock.

Sky inclined against the doorframe, naked. She’d been watching us. How long, I had no idea. Though, her slivered eyes said it all. Thinking the worst, she bolted.

I let go of Eve and ran after Sky, but she slammed my bedroom door in my face. Trying the knob, I realized she locked the bolt.

Eve ran down the stairs as I banged on the door.

“Fuck, Sky. It’s not what it looks like.”

“Really? You’re half naked. Your pants are unzipped.”

Fuck. They were. I zipped them.

“I was getting naked to sleep in the bed with you, love.”

“Why did you even marry me?”

Ramming my shoulder against the door, I shouted, “Why would I marry you if I had something going on with Eve?”

“She was marrying Hallow. Now that she’s not, sounds like you two can finally be together.”

I clutched the door frame and yelled into it, “Holy hell. That’s not what’s going on.”
