Memphis checked her watch, complaining, “It’s six a.m.”
Leaping from the bed, I went to Maddie. Yeah, I was naked. I didn’t sleep with no clothes on. “What are you doing here, Maddie?”
“You said to come over here at six. I wanted to come before work since I missed our date last night.”
“Not at six in the goddamned morning.”
“Well. Thank god I did. Now I know what goes on.” She was about to cry.
“Nothing went on last night. We just watched Netflix and went to bed.” That had been the honest to god truth. When the girls and I got upstairs, I took a quick shower and jerked off thinking about my time with Sky. I sure as hell wasn’t about to tell Maddie that, though. I’d told Memphis and Junebug all about it. Neither one of them were too friendly, thinking I’d want to leave them soon on account of how serious I was about Maddie. They thought if I resisted fucking Sky with the way she’d been tempting me because of another women, I’d be leaving them next. I didn’t have the heart to tell them that if Maddie moved in, they’d be moving out. I spent the rest of the night on the phone with club business and watching some reality show Junebug was hooked on.
“You expect me to believe that?” Maddie squeaked.
“It’s true,” Junebug told her as she got up to head to the bathroom. She didn’t bother to cover up. Junebug strode across the room in nothing but her gun holster.
Maddie gawked and grumbled. She didn’t believe me that nothing had happened.
“Nothing sexual happened. Just sleep.”
“Y’all are naked.”
“We sleep naked,” I explained.
Maddie waved her hands. “This isn’t going to work.”
“I’ve not promised anything to you. Not, yet. I’ve not done a thing wrong. I’ve not had my dick in anyone since you showed up. Believe me, it’s been hard to keep it in my pants.”
“It’s only been a few days,” Maddie grumbled. “Kingpin. I’m leaving. I don’t want you to contact me ever again.”
“Come on Maddie. You were supposed to be giving me a chance. You fucked my brother, and I’m not complaining.”
“I don’t think I can ever be with you. Not after this.”
I took a hold of her arms. “You say the word, and this won’t happen again. If you were in my bed, these whores wouldn’t be here.”
Memphis laughed like what I said was bullshit. She wasn’t helping me. I barked at her, “Memphis, tell her that you all see other men. We’re not exclusive.”
“Yeah, he’s telling the truth. Kingpin won’t make either of us his ol’ lady.”
“Ol’ lady?” Maddie asked, sounding baffled at the term.
“He won’t marry either of us. Which is crazy because we’re cool with him fucking anyone. We’ll join in or not. Junebug and I really have love for him.”
Maddie’s nose scrunched up. “That just makes it worse. This lifestyle, you having two women in your bed.” She tore away from me. “Seriously. I don’t want to see you ever again.”
“Maddie. Don’t do this to me.”
“Kingpin. Things are getting serious with Beau and me.”
“Maddie. I’m Beau.”
“No, you’re not. You’re some outlaw. Some sexual deviant. I thought I needed to explore this before I gave my heart to him, but I was so wrong. It’s only fair to Beau that I don’t see you now.” Maddie ran out.
I grabbed my pants off the floor to run after her.
Memphis stopped me. “Kingpin, love. You’re doing this all wrong.”
“I’ve got to go after her.”
