“Don’t recognize you.”

“They took it at the guard shack.”

“You’re Sky? Opry.” He pointed to a patch on his vest that said his name plain as day. Fuck. How had I missed that? Then he offered his hand. “Leo said you were coming.”

Thankfully he slid me my rum and coke. Taking a sip, my eyes were back on the biker singing on stage. “He always sing like this?”

“Our Prez, no. Not often. Live band setting up to go on, sometimes he gets a wild hair up his ass and gives us this rare treat. New girl around here has a new band. Eve’s supposed to be singing a full set tonight.” Flipping his wrist, he glanced at his watch. “Should’ve already started. Guess she’s still in the back, getting over her nerves. Kingpin’s probably buying her some more time.”

I stirred my drink. “He always that nice.”

“Hell, no.” Opry laughed like even the thought was ridiculous.

I downed my drink.

“Ah, there she is.”

As the crowd applauded, we watched a beautiful blonde woman join Kingpin on stage. He introduced her asEve and the Serpents. She started in with a bluesy country tune I didn’t quite recognize.

“Hear you’re looking to audition to be one of our dancers,” Opry said, sliding me a shot.

Sipping it, I discovered it was whiskey.

“Holler and swaller,” Opry said, clinking a shot glass to mine.

I took the shot with him, letting the whiskey burn my throat.

Making a face, I said, “You mean, strippers.”

“None of our girls strip. They come out about naked, but they don’t strip. No strippers here. Just dancers.”

“Umm,” I started. At Shakey’s I’d stripped down to basically a bikini. That was my show. And that was fine by me. But Ralph wanted me to start taking men for private lap dances. They weren’t supposed to touch, but I knew better. Why else would it be private?

Opry leaned over the bar. “We don’t audition on the weekend, so you’ll have to audition us. Take a look around, enjoy yourself. I’ll tell my brothers to keep an eye on you.”

“Your brothers? Do you have a brother? A twin brother?” I studied his face wondering if he could be old enough to be my dad. Maybe. He had the wrinkles framing the corner of his eyes when he smiled. However, he didn’t look a thing like the man who used the name Beau Strick.

“By brothers, I mean the other bikers here in the Royal Bastards MC. You’ve got to be careful around here. Anyone mess with you, mention my name, alright?” Opry tipped his hat and gave me a wink before sliding away from the bar. He left two practically naked bartenders in his absence.

“Minni, you look fine tonight as always.”

“How dee, Prez. What can I get you?”

Did she say Prez? Turning my neck, I found the mouthwatering man sitting beside me. Up close, he was even larger, dwarfing me. Even. better.

His tattooed hand at his bearded chin, Kingpin spoke to the bartender. “Minni, mix up some hell fire for me and the hottest girl in here. She looks like she likes danger.” His head jutted to me, waving his fabulous mane of hair.

Our eyes met at his words. He’d been talking about me. I started to protest, but he beat me to it.

“Why in heaven’s name are you telling people you’re with me tonight?” He didn’t sound pleased.

Chapter 9

Sky

“Um. Sorry about that. There was this guy getting… ballsy.”

He raised his eyebrows. “How so?”
