The second thing I wanted to do was beat August Remington within an inch of his life. I couldn’t remember a time before now when I had ever wanted to beat someone so badly. I would gladly kill him.

That’s what I was feeling right now.

“I want to kill August,” I answered honestly. “But Saxton is right. I can’t move against another Order member without proof.” And while that was true, and the repercussion would be insurmountable if I acted against an Order member without proof, if Rylee didn’t forgive me, things were going to get ugly.

“What a fucking mess,” Fox muttered.

“MaybeRylee can get us proof,” Ross suggested.

“How do you mean?” Fox asked.

“Well, I mean, surely she’s going to confront Laney over all this, right?” His blue eyes glance back and forth between me, Saxton, and Fox. “No way she’s not going to say something. They’re roommates. Do you honestly believe Rylee’s going to continue to live with her after something like this?”

“I honestly have no idea,” I admitted.

“So, Rylee confronts her and records it?” Fox questioned.

Ross nodded.“Yeah. She can set her phone up to record the confrontation.”

“There’s only one problem with that, Ross,” Saxton chimed in.

“What?”

Saxton’s eyes shot my way again. “Rylee’s not inclined tohelp us at the moment.” He looked back towards Ross. “I believed her when she said she wanted nothing to do with any of us now that she was free from the contract.”

“She’s not free from the contract,” I bit out, reminding him that I hadn’t officially cancelled it yet.

“Stone, look,” he started. “I get this is a shitshow. However, you didn’t see her when she arrived at Kincaid’s. I…I think you should let her go.”

His words echoing Lennox’s same sentiment had me nearly seeing red. And, yeah, maybe she deserved better than me, but she wasn’t getting it. “Never, Voss,” I snapped. “Fuckingnever.”

Chapter 26

Rylee~

Kincaid had been kind enough to drive me back to my apartment, and I didn’t know if I’d ever be able to repay her for the kindness that she’s shown me tonight. We weren’t friends. Before last Friday night, we’d never spoken as friends or even casual acquaintances. Still, she had welcomed me into her home tonight, and now she was helping me get my shit and find a place where I could finally breathe.

With two suitcases packed and two duffle bags, it was amazing how my entire life fit into four pieces of luggage and a few trash bags that we’d already hauled down to my car. Glancing around my bedroom, there really wasn’t anything to come back for unless I wanted the bedding and crap like that, and I didn’t. I had my clothes, my electronics, and all my personal keepsakes all packed up, and I didn’t care if I had to buy new shampoo and conditioner, even if I couldn’t afford it.

I wanted out of this fucking place and away from Laney Spinner.

“Is that really all of it?” Kincaid asked, and I didn’t blame her for sounding surprised.

“The apartment was already pre-furnished when we rented it,” I told her. “Except for the curtains and bedding and stuff like that, there really isn’t much left.”

Kincaid grabbed one suitcase and duffle bag while I grabbed the other duffle bag, suitcase, and my purse. “Alright,” she replied. “Let’s get out of here and find you some place to stay. Though, my offer still stands.”

“I appreciate it, Kincaid,” I told her honestly. “More than you know. But I…I don’t want to be anywhere that Stone can find me.”

“I understand,” she whispered sympathetically.

Just then, sounds of the apartment door opening had me dropping my bags, then rushing out into the living room, leaving Kincaid behind in my bedroom.

As much as I hatedStone for what he did to me, Laney’s betrayal ran deep. She set me up to be humiliated and discarded, and all for some guy who’s never looked at her once.

Laney was walking towards the kitchen with a huge smile onher face, and she looked like she just crawled out of someone’s bed. Her hair was mused, her clothes wrinkled, and her makeup was worn.

When she noticed me, she nearly had me going for her throat. “Oh, hey,” she grinned. “Wasn’t expecting you to be here.”
