Jake

New Year’s Day, morning...

“This Wolf, boys,” his finger jabs the picture, “is Aaron Williams.” His smile turns smug when he adds, “I heard you both fucked his little sister, Jamie.”

My eyes go from Bianco to Nate in panic. I want to focus on Aaron Williams, but all I can focus on is the fact that he just said Nate had fucked Jamie.

It’s like my brother can read my mind.

“Easy, Jake,” he chuckles as he raises his hands in defense. “I’ll have you know, Mateo, that I personally never fucked her.”

I hate that I feel slightly better. But shit I do.

Now the not-so-missing brother problem.

I want to jump at Bianco’s throat, but my body is too battered to move. How? How did he find him? How did he know he was still alive? How did he know to even look for him? Mainly, how can Aaron work for Volkov? That’s impossible.

“Isn’t the kid dead or something?” Nate tries to act casual.

“He disappeared three years ago,” Bianco explains. “I’m sure you can imagine that if a bitch had both of you pussy-whipped, I had to look into it. She’s a pretty little thing, isn’t she?”

He looks at both of us, his eyes bouncing between my brother and myself, dying for a reaction.

“And honestly, you can tell Rose, well-tried. She did try to put me off by saying she was just some random chick you were fucking. Gotta give it to her, she sees things coming from far, doesn’t she? Of course, I was naïve enough to believe your sister, as always. It might have worked if Jake had stopped dating Jamie.” His eyes stay on mine and there’s no smile on his face anymore. He’s all serious talk now.

I look at the picture again and my heart breaks at the thought of Aaron being alive. Jamie would give her life to be able to see him again…but not like that. I already know her world will crumble when she learns that he was working for Volkov all along. There must be an explanation to this, but Bianco would never give it to me.

“So what?” Nate asks. “You want us to kill him or something? That’s fine with me.”

Bianco chuckles and looks back at my brother. “You were always the ruthless one, you know that, son?”

Nate shrugs but I know he’s bluffing. He would never hurt Aaron, he cares too much for Jamie.

But Bianco shakes his head. “I don’t need you to go puppy hunting any time soon. However… I’ve had my most trusted Stoneview people dying left, right, and center. Just at the same time as some of our ground guys have seen this little fucker hanging around Stoneview.”

Nate nods in agreement and runs a finger slowly behind his ear. “Okay, he’s killing your guys. We’ll kill him, no need to involve his sister.”

“Let me explain more clearly.” He’s angry now, we’re not giving him the answer he wants. “How thefuckdo you think this guy knows who to kill? Only a few of us know who is truly important in this family. You two included. You date the girl, she spies on you, and suddenly her brother knows exactly who to kill?”

He runs his hands through his hair, pulling at the roots slightly. He looks completely paranoid. “This girl is not on our side. Her family is with our rival, which makes her our rival.”

“She hasn’t seen him in three years, Mateo, she doesn’t even know he’s still alive,” I snort. His speech is ridiculous, and I’m done listening to him.

“I don’t give a shit when she’s next going to see him and when she last saw him. I won’t have two of my guys playing with her. My men are dropping like flies and I’m taking all the precautions necessary. That’s how family works, Jake. I won’t take that risk.”

I don’t miss the double meaning.

“I don’t think you understand that not everyone is tied to a gang. Just because you decide to bring everyone spiraling down with you in your dodgy business, doesn’t mean every family does that. It might come as a surprise, but people usually prefer their family members toescapeany sort of illegal activity. I’ll let you think about it,” I conclude as I rise from my chair.

“Sit your ass back down,” he scolds as he gets up too.

My brain wants me to leave but my body refuses, knowing it couldn’t take more pain. I reluctantly sit back down, I’m not exactly looking forward to another beating right now.

“Listen…” Nate starts. I know he’s going to try and convince Bianco the same as I just did.

“No! You listen. Both of you. None of you are going to be fooling around with the bitch. Am I clear? Because, believe me, if you do there’s going to be consequences. And I have my ways. I like punishment,” he smiles, “and your girl will get plenty of it if I see any of you around her again.”

He leans over the desk and his smirk turns pure evil. “I like inflicting pain, boys, and the two of you have seen nothing. If you doubt me, ask your beautiful sister how bad it gets.”
