“No,” I say, a hint of worry in my tone as I look at her. “I found out only now. Seth is still at work.”

Rachel makes a face. “Don’t you think you should talk to him before writing another book about us? He was already angry with the first one.”

I grimace. “Yeah, I suppose you’re right.”

“I usually am,” Rachel says with a giggle.

I narrow my eyes at her and say, “But what if he tells me not to do it?”

Rachel shrugs. “Then you should respect that.”

I groan and roll my eyes. “Really? I should respect that and move on when I’ve been handed my dreams on a golden platter?”

“Well, explain it to him,” Rachel says while poking my shoulder. “Clear the air between you two. You guys used to be so close. Now you barely speak to each other unless it concerns me or the house.”

“It’s hard for me to speak to someone who practically walked out on us a month ago.”

Rachel frowns at me and I watch her tilt her head. She gets that look in her eye—telling me I should let bygones be bygones. To hell with that. Seth was a fucking asshole. He may have apologized to Alex and Rachel, but he didn’t apologize to me.

Actually, I’m wondering if I am the only one he didn’t apologize to. Knowing Seth, he probably did omit me. That fucking asshole. Why is he so angry with me? What exactly did I do to him? I left out his name and changed a few key components about him. For fuck’s sake, I made him taller in my story. He should be on his knees thanking me. Who the hell does he think pays for this house? His lifestyle?

“He came back,” Rachel finally says. “That’s all that matters now. He came back and he’s here for us.”

I shake my head and run a hand through my hair. It does nothing to kill the frustration growing inside me. “You may have forgiven him, but he still has yet to prove himself to me. He may leave again.”

“He won’t,” Rachel rushes out.

“You don’t know that.”

Rachel juts out her jaw and looks at me with a glint of fire in her eyes. “I do. I believe in him, Lucas.”

I bite back my frustrated sigh and my gaze falls to the bed. “I guess we will have to agree to disagree.”

“I guess we will.”

I grimace at the bite in her tone. This isn’t why I came up here. I wanted to celebrate, not argue. I wrap an arm around her and draw her closer. She instantly relaxes under my touch. My breath hitches when she lays her head against my shoulder, and my senses fill with her coconut shampoo.

“Let’s not fight,” I murmur into her hair.

“I wasn’t fighting.”

I grimace at the edge in her voice. Shit. I really need to think more about what I let out of my mouth. “Why don’t we do something fun?”

Rachel sighs. It sounds frustrated. Man, I really am fucking this up, aren’t I?

“Like what?” she asks.

“We could go see a movie.”

Rachel wrinkles her nose before shaking her head. “Nothing good is playing.”

She has me there. “We could go for a walk?”

Rachel groans and flops back onto the bed. Several pillows cushion her fall, and she stares up at me with her face scrunched, looking both adorable and annoyed. “Doctor told me to rest, remember?”

How could I forget? “Yeah, yeah, I know that,” I say while running a hand through my hair.

Rachel’s bottom lip trembles as I rack my brain for something we can do together. I can tell she’s frustrated. I would be too if I was in her shoes. It must be upsetting having to spend day after day resting, eating food she doesn’t care for, all the while worrying something might go wrong if she doesn’t follow the rules perfectly. She can’t even go to class right now to take her mind off the baby. I wish there was something I could do for her.
