“What?”

She remembered Hunter had a musical fetish. “I’m not really in the mood.”

Hunter looked around the room. “Where is your remote? We’re watching it. And after you watch it, you’ll feel like a horrible human being for saying you weren’t in the mood.”

She chuckled. “This is your insane intensity.”

“I’m not intense.”

“Yeah, right.”

He bent to look beneath the couch. “Where is your remote?”

“I honestly don’t know. I haven’t watched television out here for a long time.”

Hunter jumped up and then tore off all the couch cushions.

“Maybe you should just play your guitar for me.”

“Don’t distract me,” he said, putting the cushions back and then moving to the next couch. “We must find. The. Remote.”

She laughed, unable to do anything but watch his craziness play out. “I’m hungry.”

He shook his finger at her. “We just ate.”

“What does that have to do with it?”

She laughed. “No eating until we find. The. Remote.”

She pouted. “Are you serious?”

He put those cushions back, then moved to her bookshelves. “Dead serious. Hamilton is … I don’t even have words to describe it.”

She waited, watching the insanity, then laughed.

“What?”

She pointed to the television. The remote was right on top. “Find. The. Remote.”

He laughed and got it, then queued up the movie.

Two hours later, she was blown away.

He turned off the television. “Well?”

“It was wonderful.”

He put his hands behind his head, seeming satisfied. “I know.”

“And you’re humble.”

“True.” He grinned.

Earlier, he’d admitted that he and Trent had always loved her. Cheryse had always loved them as well. Of course, she’d known that, but today—and over the past couple weeks, really—it had changed things inside her.

Roger always acted like he was above movie nights. He was snobby. He’d never be caught dead eating fast food on the floor in front of the television. They always went out somewhere, to an event, a fundraiser, or the theater. That wasn’t bad on its own, and she usually had a good time with Roger. Plus, he always talked about the family they would have, including the two children, a boy and a girl. He wanted to move into a new place in South Port—no fixing up for him.

That thought made her sad; the boxes that Hunter had built were coming along nicely. They had planted a bunch of vegetables and even different flowers that would keep the bugs away. Hunter was invested, and he’d been doing research. She would be sad to leave all the boxes.
