He reaches down, getting an arm load of wood and walks back towards the cabin.

“I’ll get us some dinner ready.” He says, walking by me to go inside.

Following him, I ask, “How long do you think we’ll be here?”

“It’s hard to say.” He shrugs. “They’ll track us down eventually you know. I’m hoping to get you completely better before we have to run again.”

Shaking my head, I look down at the floor.

“Shouldn’t we put together a plan?” I ask.

“I have a plan.” He answers, putting the wood down.

“What is it?” I ask when he doesn’t continue.

He looks back up at me, his eyes going hard. “I’m going to kill them all.”

Not sure of what to say to that, I ask if there’s anything I can do to help with dinner. He shoos me away, so I go back to the porch step to finish my coffee and listen to the birds as the sun goes down.

Chapter 5

Giovanni

We’ve been here for a little more than a week. Most of her bruises have now faded and she seems more relaxed than she was before, going so far as to walk around more outside.

I’ve not said anything to her about staying close to the cabin, surely she knows it wouldn’t be a good idea to go too far.

Scotty Mendez’s men will find us eventually. I’m more than hoping that they do come. I’ve got some anger I need to release in some way and a few of those stupid fucks would do nicely.

Walking into the cabin, I don’t see Raven at first so I head into the bedroom. What I see has my feet sprouting roots to the floor.

Raven is in a tub in the middle of the floor completely naked, washing her body. When she catches sight of me, she jumps slightly and I turn away quickly.

“Sorry.” I say gruffly, striding back to the door quickly but her voice stops me.

“Gio?” She asks.
