We came together in a fiery explosion, her soft sighs music to my ears. Her body arched into mine like she was a finely tuned instrument and I was the virtuoso.

I always knew we’d burn together and we did, slipping into a rhythm that was both old and new. She was the one who drank too much, but I was the one who was intoxicated with the feel of her, the scent of her, the taste of her.

I held her as she basked in the afterglow, her body shuddering a little as I slipped out of her. She pressed a light kiss to my jaw as silence descended over us.

A few more minutes later, a soft snore emanated from her. Amanda had fallen asleep.

I watched as she snuggled in my arms.

It was just amazing! Being so close to Amanda after all these years scared me and made me happy at the same time. It all felt so right!

She was so beautiful—even in her heartbreak. How would I ever be able to leave her now?

But I had a successful practice in London. There were people who needed me there. My patients needed me…

And yet, all I could think of was Amanda and staying here in Georgetown, where she was.

After what we did, she had all but taken my soul with her… did it even mean as much to her as it did to me?

Was she just drunk and heartbroken over her cheating boyfriend?

Would she regret what happened between us when she woke up?

I stared at her a little more before sleep finally came over me.

Tomorrow is another day. All I have is tonight.

I woke up to the soft sunshine streaming through the curtains, the sensation of a warm body pressed up to my side.

Images of what happened last night flashed before my eyes and I looked slowly to my side.

Amanda lay curled beside me, my arm loosely holding her close. Her deep, golden hair fanned out across the pillow, lit up by the streaks of sunlight. Her lips pouted a little before she snuggled closer to me, her nose burying itself into my chest. A soft, sleepy smile traced across her lips.

My heart exploded with happiness. My God, she was just so damned beautiful. I could hardly believe what happened between us was real. It was like your wildest fantasies coming true just after life smacked you with one too many curve balls.

I just prayed to God she felt the same way.

I pressed a soft kiss to her forehead as I carefully untangled myself from her arms and slipped out of bed. I found my clothes on the floor and put them on, my stomach growling in protest.

When she wakes up, she would no doubt be hungry, too, I thought, shaking my head and laughing at myself. My heart felt so light and happy, it almost felt like I was floating in the air.

I made my way downstairs to the kitchen. Buddy, noting my appearance, was up in an instant.

“We are going to be making pancakes for your mom, Bud,” I told him. “She loved my Mom’s chocolate chip pancakes and I know just how to make them.”

Buddy barked enthusiastically and I laughed as I set out to prepare the ingredients.

“Of course, I didn’t forget about you,” I laughed. “I hope your mom won’t object if we had a bit of bacon.”

Now that I could appreciate the kitchen better, it did have Amanda all over it—from the softly fluttering curtains with a delicate floral print, to the ruffled hand towel hanging from the refrigerator handle. A pale pink apron with ruffles hung from a peg close to the door.

It was a good thing that Amanda kept her kitchen well-stocked, and I soon found everything I needed. It had probably been a long time since she had had these special pancakes, and what could be better than waking up to the scent of your favorite breakfast?

I smiled and went to work on the pancakes. This was turning out to be one of the best mornings of my life.
