Page 10 of Losing Control

He cracked his knuckles and gave her a playful wink. "Alright, since you asked. I think you're obviously interested since you've let him into your apartment, so why don't you have a little fun for once? I won't ask what happened with the one at the diner, but this one is obviously willing to spend some time with you. Take advantage of that and push yourself out of your comfort zone."

Mykie whistled. "That's some good advice for not knowing a lot about me."

"I know you a little bit," he said, rolling his eyes. "I know you're too stiff and responsible for your own good. You and Dexter both are, but you loosen up with each other. You just have to find someone else to be yourself with, and you'll be set for life."

"That's a great way to think of it," she murmured.

Noah checked his watch and jumped up. "I've got to get to class in about a half an hour. It was great talking to you, but I've got to go."

"Like I said, you're welcome to vent with me anytime. I'm great at keeping secrets as long as it's harmless." She stood up with him and walked him over to the door. They said another quick goodbye before she closed it softly behind him.

Maybe he was right. She needed to push herself out of her comfort zone. That was why she turned on her heels and went to find her phone. Once she found it, she added all the boys but Ryker to a group chat on her phone.

Mykie: Change of plans. Let's all meet at Pearl's tonight and we can all hang out?

She set her phone down just as her stomach growled. She looked around, only to realize that Ryker must have dumped her food, assuming she was finished with it. She couldn't help but feel disappointed that she missed out on the rest of the breakfast he made for her.

Still hungry, she headed for the kitchen only to stop short in the doorway when she saw her plate on the counter with a note.

She picked it up and read it out loud. "I wish you had a chance to eat it fresh, but you can heat it back up in the microwave if you're still hungry."

"I didn't know how long I'd be in the shower," Ryker said behind her. She jumped at the sound of his voice, still startled after him sneaking up on her so many times before. "I've got to head out, but I'll see you tonight, hopefully."

She nodded and turned around to look at him. His bottom half was wrapped up in a towel while the rest of him was bare. He was drying his hair with another towel as he watched her as intently as always. She gulped. "I've been taking over Jezebeth's shifts when I can. If you're there tonight, I should have time to come down and relax towards the end of the night. I invited the rest of the guys to the bar. I need to get back on the saddle, otherwise, I'm going to continue to chicken out of fixing things with everyone."

He nodded back and wrapped the towel he was using to dry his hair around his neck. He stalked over to her until he was standing so close to her that she had to look up to see his eyes. "Do you agree with what you said to the boy? Noah?"

"I said a lot of things," she murmured.

He pressed her back against the counter, setting his hands on either side of her but didn't touch her.

"I meant the part about making sure he's the only one Dexter is thinking about. Is that the way you think, too? The way to your heart?"

She smirked, pressing herself against his front.

"It's certainly a good start for him, but with the way you've been hovering lately, it seems like you've been trying to make me think that way. It must be a snake thing," she murmured.

They were closer now. Only a breath away from kissing each other when he spoke again. "You've convinced me to accept that there'll be other guys in your life without even trying. You even have me encouraging you not to push the other guys away. I'll just have to make you rely on me more and make sure I'm the first one you think about."

Ryker pushed himself away from the counter and her, almost causing her to lose her balance. Mykie assumed that he went back to the bathroom to get ready.

"You're already halfway there," she mumbled under her breath.

TENSION RISES

It felt weird to get ready for a night out without Jezebeth commenting on everything she was doing. Ryker had already gone to the Pit, but only after offering to drive her. She declined, promising herself that she wouldn’t let the night get out of control where she wouldn’t be able to drive her car back home.

When she arrived and checked over the bar to make sure everything was in order to begin the night, she looked over all the texts she had gotten from the boys.

Caspar: Sure thing! We’ll be there at ten!

Corbus: Who’s this “we”? You can’t get anywhere unless I offer to drive.

Caspar: Are you really not going to drive?

Corbus: Aren’t you not supposed to drink with your pain meds?

Caspar: Are you going to drive, or do I need to drive with a sprained foot?
