Page 14 of Jocks

I reach up and scratch my beard absently, watching as one of the hot jocks around campus almost walks into a bookshelf walking away from me.

Shane “The Spider” Murphy is a wet dream on legs. Tall, muscular and smells like a forest.

“Knock, knock.” Evie Malone pops her head in the door. “Did I see The Spider leave your study room?”

“You did.”

“You know, word around campus is that he plays for your team.” She giggles, coming in to sit by me.

“Oh, really?” I turn and face her. “How’d you hear that?”

“First? People talk and don’t pay attention to who’s around. And second? I work at a diner. Again. People talk.”

“He offered to teach me about boxing.”

Her eyes grow wide. “Oh, my god!” She grabs my arm. “That’s so cool!”

“What’s the word with Daniel?” I ask, watching her face drop. “You know, you’re my BFF you can tell me.”

“I don’t even know what to think about him anymore. I feel stupid, you know? I’ve had a crush on him since I was sixteen and now here I am at nineteen, almost twenty, and he’s married.”

“Ah. But word around is that it’s a name thing.”

“Where did you hear that?”

“I have my ways, Evie.”

“I’m starving, and I am over diner food. Let’s go chow in the cafeteria.”

“Sounds good to me.”

Gathering my books, I head out with Evie for some laughs, food and a good time before my next class.
