She shrugs. “It’s not one I expect you to rise to.”

She turns away from me, and I don’t know what’s worse, my anger at how she treats me or the raging hard-on in my pants because she’s sexy as fuck when she talks to me like that.

The anger wins out. I spin around, and I find Chaz making out with a woman. I yank him away from her.

“What the fuck, man?” he asks.

“That one,” I say, pointing through the crowd at Raina where she leans against a wall. “Full name.”

“Jesus, can’t you see I’m busy?”

“Now,” I said.

Chaz shakes his head, but I don’t want to hear it. I know he’s going to give me what I want.

Everyonegives me what I want.

Except her.

Fuck.

I need to know who she is so that I can find out something about her that I can use against her. She doesn’t want to play nice, so I’ll show her exactly what it means to play dirty.

Chapter 4

Raina

The party wasn’t my idea of fun, and I didn’t get much out of going either. Lacey watched me like a hawk, and pickpocketing is one of the friendship faux-pas that will get me out of her good books.

And as much as she irritates me, I need her. She’s a part of my cover.

When I wake up the next morning, I have a headache, and I’m irritated. My dad is going to come back for money, I have classes to attend, and I scored great on the test I marked myself, which means this course is exactly where I need to be. But my grades don’t count, because I’m not actually a student. This is something my dad is going to use against me if I don’t figure shit out.

All of that pisses me off.

Thankfully, Lacey isn’t in the room when I wake up. I don’t think I can stand her upbeat chatter today. I grab my things and hurry to the showers, but since I’m later than the morning rush, I get to stand alone under the spray without listening to other women rambling and gushing about grades, boys, and last night’s failure of a party.

When I’m done in the shower, there’s a text on my phone.

Study?Kat asks.

It’s a Saturday, but it’s something to do.

Sure, just say where and I’m there.

She replies right away.

That rhymes. Cute! Come to my dorm in two hours.

She sends me another text with her room number, and I glance at the clock. I have enough time to find something to eat.

I walked to the cafeteria, book bag slung over my shoulder. When I get there, the cafeteria is almost empty. Half the students go home for the weekend, and the other half are probably sleeping off last night’s party. This doesn’t help me—I need a crowd if I want to hustle some cash for a bagel or even a cup of coffee.

“Up so early?” a voice says behind me, and I bristle already. When I turn, I look into the stormy eyes of none other than Stone Giles. For a moment, I wonder if they named him after the slate gray color of his eyes or if his eyes are the color of stonebecauseof his name.

I don’t want to think he’s handsome, even when he is. I don’t want to get lost in his eyes, even though they’re mesmerizing.

I groan. “I’m busy.”
