He turns while he talks. “I’ll see you around, Raina.” He pauses. “That’s your real name, right?”

“Like you give a shit,” I sneer at him.

He laughs, unaffected by my reaction.

“You’re right, I don’t.”

He walks off, whistling as if he doesn’t have a care in the world. I glare at him, shooting daggers at his back before I sag against the wall.

Fuck!

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

I’m so sick and tired of the world turning its back on me. As if one man blackmailing me isn’t enough, now I’ve got two. And both of them are lazy pieces of shit who won’t do what they need to do to get by.

I let out a frustrated groan and start walking across campus to Kat’s dorm. I’m going to have to go through this shit now instead of my own work when we have our study session. At least I can pull off a lie about the subject and why it’s suddenly in my syllabus when the history of media—the first chapter I saw in the book when I looked at it—has nothing to do with psychology.

“Where are they training?” I hear just before I walk into someone.

I was deep in thought and didn’t look where I was going.

“Sorry,” I mutter.

“No sweat,” he says and grins at me.

“At the old stadium,” his friend says. “We should have a look. If we can see Stone in action before the game—”

“Are they playing another game tonight?” I ask, interrupting.

“Yeah,” the guys say, nodding in unison. “But you know how packed it gets. Here’s a tip.” He leans in conspiringly, and his friend nods. They’re happy to dish information, even when they don’t know me. They must be Stone Giles worshipers like everyone else around here. “Catch the pre-game warmup. Not everyone knows where they’re going to play, but my brother knows the coach and has it on good authority.”

The guys elbow each other. I smile sweetly.

“Thank you for the tip, guys,” I say. “Maybe I’ll see you there tonight.” I wink. I’m a far cry from twirling my hair around my finger the way Lacey does it, but the guys look pleased with my advances.

“Looking forward to it,” the one I walked into says, and they walk off.

I’m not going to that game, even if it kills me. I’ve had more than enough of Stone Giles for a lifetime.

But I can think of a few people who might be interested to know where the pre-match warmup is going to be. Judging by the glares Stone got from the other team, paired with the rumors that he put their goalie out of action, I know just who to go to about this.

Maybe, they’ll take Stone down a peg for me, and I won’t have to get my hands dirty. If he can delegate his work, so can I.

Chapter 5

Stone

I can’t stop thinking about her and that irritates me. Of all the women in this college, Raina doesn’t want me.

What the fuck is her problem?

“Maybe that’s your problem,” Chaz says when we hoist our hockey bags over our shoulders.

“What?”

“It’sbecauseshe doesn’t want you that you’re so hung up on her. She’s different.”

“Yeah, she is. She’s a fucking pain in my ass.”
